A food delivery executive's thoughtful message to a customer has gone viral on social media. The post, shared by a Zomato customer, included a text message from a delivery partner with a speech and hearing impairment, which quickly resonated with the users.

"I have picked up the order. Will be delivering it soon," the delivery partner said in the message before adding: “Hello. I am deaf. I can't listen and mute. I will message you, see please.”

The user named Stutii, who shared the conversation screenshot on X (formerly Twitter), captioned the post: "Things men do for their family!"

'Even after such challenges...'

As the post went viral, garnering over nine lakh views, social media users lauded the delivery partner for their professional and resolute behaviour even in the face of adversity.

"This is why I always tip well. Never know what someone is going through to bring you that food," said one user, while another added: "Even a simple gesture, like offering water to a delivery person, brings them comfort and happiness."

A third commented: "The best part is he is putting effort rather than making excuses to make his life better even after such challenges."

A fourth shared their experience with a delivery executive, stating: "Last week, a delivery guy approached my door. He had a leg amputated and was on crutches. I told him he should've called me at the gate so I could have come down to pick up the order, since our housing society is large. Zomato should consider mentioning delivery partners' physical conditions in the app, so that customers can be supportive if they wish."

In June, another Zomato delivery executive earned the internet's plaudits after he conveyed to a customer that he was handicapped and could not come up to deliver the order.

Archana Pandey, a two-time hearing-impaired Olympian, trains for Tokyo without state support, highlighting a gap in Uttar Pradesh’s sports policy that rewards para athletes but excludes the deaf.
Every evening at a small table tennis hall in Jankipuram, the sound of the ball striking the paddle echoes steadily. At one end of the table stands Archana Pandey, Lucknow’s only two-time hearing-impaired Olympian paddler, training tirelessly for her third Deaf Olympics in Tokyo this November. Yet, while Uttar Pradesh’s sports policy rewards para athletes, it makes no mention of deaf athletes, leaving Archana without financial support or a secure job. Behind her determination lies a story of struggle, silence, and survival.

Archana, 34, has represented India twice on the world stage, finishing fifth in Turkey and Brazil. This time, she dreams of a podium finish. “I have won more than a dozen medals, but I still run my house with just the little I earn from coaching children,” she said, her voice breaking as she spoke of her retired father and ageing mother who depend on her.

Her story began at Lucknow University, where she first won a college title in 2012. Four years later, she claimed her first national medal, a bronze. Since then, her record has grown: one gold, five silver, and six bronze medals in national deaf championships.

Still, she says, the applause never turned into recognition. “Other states like Gujarat and Haryana support their deaf athletes with jobs and money. Here in UP, I get nothing. I only request our CM Yogi Adityanath Ji to support me as he does other sportspersons,” she said.

At the Pacific Table Tennis Centre, Archana continues to train under her coach, Parag Agarwal. He is not just her mentor but also her lifeline.

“Her style caught my eye when I first saw her play. I knew she had the spark,” Parag said. During the pandemic, Archana’s situation grew so dire that she contemplated suicide. “Her family had nothing to fall back on. I managed to provide her some financial support, but it’s not enough for a player who represents India.”

Parag added, “I request our CM to extend similar support to deaf athletes in Uttar Pradesh as well.” He pointed out that, unlike Paralympians, who receive financial assistance from the state for global events, deaf athletes remain excluded. Hearing impairment is not recognised as a disability category in the Paralympic Games, leaving players like Archana without any institutional backing.

Today, Archana trains for long hours, her eyes fixed on the dream of a medal in Tokyo. But every practice session is also a reminder of the uncertain future that shadows her.

“She survives on a modest income from my academy, but that is no way for a two-time Olympian to live,” Parag added. “Paralympians from UP receive full support from the government. Deaf athletes deserve the same.”

For Archana, the Deaf Olympics is more than just a tournament. “My parents tell me a medal will change everything. I believe it too. That’s why I fight every day, despite everything,” she said, before picking up her paddle again.

Sign language expert to help cops probe rape of mute, hearing-impaired girl

Jaipur: The city police have enlisted a sign language expert to assist in the investigation after a 20-year-old hearing-impaired and mute girl was allegedly raped.

The incident came to light when her family filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Jamdoli police station Thursday.

According to the FIR, the family reported that an unknown man raped their daughter, who is visually impaired in addition to being hearing-impaired and mute. The complaint states that approximately two weeks ago, the accused initiated contact through a wrong-number video call and communicated with the girl using sign language.

Police officials said the suspect subsequently had several more video calls with her. On Sept 20, he allegedly lured her to a market under the false pretence of a meeting. Later, he used another video call to trick her into meeting him again. This time, he took her on his bike to a hotel.

The FIR alleges that once they were alone in the hotel, the accused forcibly raped the girl and threatened to kill her if she resisted. He also warned her not to disclose the incident to anyone.

Terrified by the threats, the survivor remained silent for several days before finally confiding in her family.

Upon learning of the ordeal, the family immediately approached the police and filed a case against the unidentified suspect.

"The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation based on the mobile number used by the accused," said an official. "We are taking the help of a sign language expert to properly communicate with the survivor and record her detailed statement."

Stuti captioned the post, “Things men do for their family!” and social media users quickly flooded it with praise, applauding not just the delivery partner’s dedication but also Zomato’s inclusive approach to its workforce.

Sign language training for bus drivers, conductors to support deaf and mute passengers

Prayagraj: For the welfare of persons with disabilities the state authorities are set to hold Indian sign language classes for roadways bus drivers and conductors. This initiative aims to facilitate communication for deaf and mute passengers traveling on roadways buses.

With International Sign Language Week being observed across the state from Sept 22 to Sept 28, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation is organising special programmes at various depots and training institutes.

Ravindra Kumar, Regional Manager of the Prayagraj Roadways Region, said, "On the directives of the state govt, the region's bus drivers and conductors will be trained in basic sign language for the deaf and dumb."

He added that this training will be provided to conductors and drivers of the Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation at Prayagraj, Leader Road, Civil Lines, Mirzapur, Badshahpur, Pratapgarh, Manjhanpur, and Lalganj depots in the Prayagraj region.

Experts nominated by the All Uttar Pradesh Association for the Deaf, Lucknow (AUPAD), will provide training in basic sign language. Aman Saxena, General Secretary of the All Uttar Pradesh Association for the Deaf, said that three-hour training session will be held at the Rajapur Roadways Workshop in Prayagraj on Sept 28, International Deaf Day. Drivers and conductors will be trained on the sign language they should use to communicate with disabled people (deaf and mute) when boarding buses. They will also share basic information about various aspects of sensitivity towards disabled people.

ஜெய்பூர்: வாய் பேச முடியாத, காது கேளாத மனிதர்களின் சிரமங்கள் சொல்லிமாளாது, தினசரி அவர்களின் வாழ்க்கையே போராட்டம் நிறைந்த ஒன்றாக இருக்கும். ஆனால், அவர்களின் வாழ்வில் ஒளியேற்றும் தீக்குச்சியாக இருக்கிறார் நூபுர் பரத்வாஜ். யார் இவர்? இவருக்கும் அவர்களுக்கும் என்ன தொடர்பு? அவர்கள் வாழ்க்கையில் நூபுர் பரத்வாஜ் ஏற்படுத்திய மாற்றம் என்ன என்பதை அறிய ஒரு தசாப்தம் பின்னோக்கி செல்ல வேண்டும்.

நூபுரின் தந்தை மனோஜ் பரத்வாஜும் காது கேளாத வாய் பேச முடியாதவர்களுக்காக தொடர்ந்து பணியாற்றி வருகிறார். இதன் ஒருபகுதியாக தனது மகள் நூபுர் பரத்வாஜ் பெயரிலேயே அறக்கட்டளையை நிறுவியுள்ளார்.

அப்பாவின் இந்த உணர்வு அர்ப்பணிப்பு குறித்து பேசிய நூபுர் பரத்வாஜ், "அப்பா எனக்கு காது கேளாத குழந்தைகளின் போராட்டங்கள், அவர்கள் சமூகத்தில் எதிர்கொள்ளும் பாகுபாடு, சமூகம் அவர்களை புறக்கணிக்கும் விதம் குறித்து சிறுவயது முதலே எனக்கு எடுத்துக்கூறியுள்ளார். சிறுவயதில் இருந்தே அப்பாவின் மூலம் இந்த கஷ்டத்தை கேட்டதால், பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களுக்கு எப்படியேனும் உதவி செய்ய வேண்டும் எண்ணம் எனக்குள் தோன்றியது. அதை தற்போது என்னுடைய படிப்பு மூலம், அவர்களின் மொழியினை புரிந்தவள் என்ற அடிப்படையிலும் செய்து வருகிறேன்" என்றார்.

சட்ட படிப்பு மூலம் காது கேளாத, வாய் பேச முடியாதவர்களுக்கு எப்படியான உதவியை செய்து வருகிறீர்கள் என்ற கேள்விக்கு பதிலளித்த அவர், "ஒரு சிறுமி ஒருவருக்கு உறவினர் ஒருவரால் உடல் ரீதியாக துஷ்பிரயோகம் செய்யப்படுகிறார். அந்த பெண்ணுக்கு என்ன நடந்தது என்பதை கூட சொல்லத் தெரியவில்லை. இதனால் இந்த குற்றம் தொடர்பாக முதல் தகவல் அறிக்கையை கூட போலீசாரால் பதிவு செய்ய முடியவில்லை. சம்பவம் தொடர்பாக நான் தலையிட்டதால், அந்த சிறுமி தனக்கு நேர்ந்ததை என்னிடம் தெரிவித்தார். அதன் அடிப்படையில் அந்த சிறுமிக்கு சட்ட உதவிகள் கிடைத்து" என்றார்.
