BAREILLY: A Pocso court in Rampur, UP, has awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment to three accused, including a minor boy, for gang-raping a deaf and mute 17-year-girl and sharing the video of the sexual assault on social media.
Senior prosecuting officer Shiv Prakash Pandey, said, "On May 25, 2019, the girl had left home to make cow dung cakes when she was gang-raped by two men, both aged 20, and a minor boy at a village under Milak police station limits. A day later, the girl's father came across the video of the assault on social media and registered an FIR under IPC, Pocso and IT Act."
He added, "All the three accused were arrested and one of them was found to be a minor. Police had filed a chargesheet in the case in July 2019 and the trial of the minor offender was forwarded to the Juvenile court. However, it later came to light that he was 17 years and 10-months-old. The case was then transferred to the session court and he was tried as an adult as per guidelines of the SC."
Pandey said, "Since there was direct evidence against the accused, additional district and sessions judge (Pocso), Mohd Rafi, awarded 20 years rigorous imprisonment to all three along with a fine of Rs 50,000 each. The court has also directed the district administration to grant compensation to the girl under Victim Compensation Scheme."
