Indian activist files petition in Pak court to seek Geeta's custody

Karachi, 

In an attempt to find Geeta's parents, a deaf and mute Indian girl stuck in Pakistan for more than a decade, an Indian social worker has filed a petition in a court in Karachi to seek custody of the girl.

The petition was filed by Momineen Malik with the district and sessions court (south) which summoned Abdul Sattar Edhi, the chairman of Edhi Foundation -- a charity which is taking care of her, others as respondents in the application.

Court judge Ahmed Saba issued notices to the respondents with direction to appear in court along with Geeta on Monday.

Malik is the petitioner in the case and will be represented by a local lawyer.

Geeta, 23, is believed to have mistakenly crossed into Pakistani territory as a child.

Malik, who is also a lawyer, has moved an application under Section 552 (power to compel restoration of abducted females) of the criminal procedure code and asked the court for the custody of the woman in order to hand her over to her parents in India who are yet to be located in India despite the Indian government efforts.

Section 552 states that if a complaint is made to a sessions judge on oath about the abduction or unlawful detention of a woman, or of a female child under the age of 16 years, for any unlawful purpose, he may order the woman or girl to take a decision out of her own free will to be reunited with her husband, parent, guardian or other person having the lawful charge of such child, and may compel compliance with such order, using such force as may be necessary.

Geeta was found sitting alone and disorientated on Samjhauta Express in Lahore and police believed that she had come from India after crossing the Wagah border through the train.

She was later shifted to the Edhi home in Mithadar Karachi after the authorities failed to locate her family and relatives as she can't speak or hear.

Geeta's story came into the limelight after Salman Khan-starrer Bollywood hit Bajrangi Bhaijaan mirrored a similar story about a Pakistani girl lost in India and brought back to Pakistan by Khan.

Geeta's plight also attracted the attention of the Indian government which vowed to bring her back.

High commissioner TCA Raghavan and his wife had visited the Edhi home and met Geeta last month after her story was aired in the Pakistani media.

மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் இடஒதுக்கீடு: உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் வரவேற்பு

02.09.2015, புதுடெல்லி: மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளுக்கு அரசு வேலைவாய்ப்பில் 3 சதவீத இடஒதுக்கீடு வழங்குவது தொடர்பான மத்திய அரசின் நடவடிக்கையை உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் வரவேற்றுள்ளது. அரசு வேலைவாய்ப்பில் மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளுக்கு 3 சதவீத இடஒதுக்கீடு வழங்க வேண்டுமென்ற உத்தரவை மத்திய அரசு முறையாக செயல்படுத்துவதில்லை என தனியார் தொண்டு நிறுவனம் உச்ச நீதிமன்றத்தில் மனு தாக்கல் செய்திருந்தது. 

இந்த வழக்கில் நீதிபதிகள் ரன்ஜன் கோகாய், என்.வி.ரமணா நேற்று அளித்த தீர்ப்பில், ‘மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகளுக்கு 15,000க்கும் மேற்பட்ட காலி பணியிடங்களில் அரசு வேலை வழங்குவது தொடர்பாக நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இப்பணி வரும் பிப்ரவரிக்குள் முடிவடையும் என மத்திய அரசு தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

அரசின் இந்த நடவடிக்கையை வரவேற்கிறோம். எனவே, நீதிமன்ற உத்தரவை மத்திய அரசு அமல்படுத்தவில்லை என்பதை ஏற்க முடியாது. மனுவை தள்ளுபடி செய்கிறோம்’ என்று தீர்ப்பளித்தனர்.

தமிழகம் முழுவதும் புதிதாக 10 ஆயிரம் சுயஉதவி குழுக்கள் ஜெயலலிதா அறிவிப்பு

சட்டசபையில் முதல்-அமைச்சர் ஜெயலலிதா, 110 விதியின் கீழ் நேற்று அறிவிப்பு ஒன்றை வெளியிட்டு பேசினார். அப்போது அவர் கூறியதாவது:-

கிராமப்புறங்களில் உள்ள மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் மற்றும் நலிவுற்றோர் சிறு தொழில் செய்து வருவாய் ஈட்டி வாழ்வாதாரத்தை மேம்படுத்த அவர்களுக்கு வட்டியில்லா கடன் அளிக்கும் வகையில் 600 கிராம வறுமை ஒழிப்பு சங்கங்களுக்கு தலா 2 லட்சம் ரூபாய் வீதம் 12 கோடி ரூபாய் புதுவாழ்வு திட்டத்தின் மூலம் வழங்கப்படும். இது மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் மற்றும் நலிவுற்றோர் சிறிய தொழில்களை தொடங்கி வாழ்வாதாரம் பெற வழி வகுக்கும்.

இதுவரை சுய உதவிக்குழுவில் உறுப்பினராக இல்லாத ஆதரவற்றோர், ஏழைகள் மற்றும் நலிவுற்றோர்களைக் கொண்டு 10 ஆயிரம் சுய உதவிக் குழுக்கள் தமிழ்நாடு மாநில ஊரக வாழ்வாதார இயக்கத்தின் மூலம் இந்த ஆண்டு அமைக்கப்படும். இந்த சுய உதவிக் குழுக்களின் உறுப்பினர்கள் அவர்களின் வாழ்க்கை தரத்தை மேம்படுத்துவதற்கு தேவையான அனைத்து நடவடிக்கைகளையும் அரசு மேற்கொள்ளும்.

ரூ.6 ஆயிரம் கோடி வங்கிக் கடன்

சுய உதவி குழுக்களுக்கு போதுமான கடன் உதவியை உரிய நேரத்தில் குறைந்த வட்டி விகிதத்தில் வங்கிகள் மூலம் ஏற்படுத்தி தருவதன் வாயிலாக பெண்களை பொருளாதார நடவடிக்கைகளில் ஈடுபடுத்தி கடன் சுமைகளில் இருந்து விடுபட வழிவகை செய்யப்படுகிறது. மகளிர் சுய உதவிக்குழு உறுப்பினர்களின் பொருளாதார மேம்பாட்டினை உறுதி செய்யும் வகையில் கடந்த 4 ஆண்டுகளில் அவர்களுக்கு 20,270 கோடி ரூபாய் கடனாக வங்கிகள் மூலம் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது என்பதைப் பெருமையுடன் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன்.

இதன் தொடர்ச்சியாக நடப்பாண்டிலும் சுய உதவிக் குழுக்களுக்கு 6 ஆயிரம் கோடி ரூபாய் வங்கிக் கடன் வழங்க நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும்.

எனது தலைமையிலான அரசின் இந்த நடவடிக்கைகள், கிராமங்கள் மேம்படவும், கிராம மக்கள் வளம் பெறவும், மகளிர் சுயஉதவிக்குழுக்கள் பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சி அடையவும், கிராமப்புற இளைஞர்கள் வேலைவாய்ப்பினைப் பெறவும் வழி வகுக்கும் என்பதைத் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன்.
