14.09.2019, கிருஷ்ணகிரி: மாற்றுத்திறனாளி பெண்ணை பலாத்காரம் செய்த வழக்கில், இருவருக்கு சிறை தண்டனை விதித்து தீர்ப்பளிக்கப்பட்டது. கிருஷ்ணகிரி மாவட்டம், ஓசூர் பஸ்தி பகுதியை சேர்ந்த, 13 வயது சிறுமி காது கேளாத, வாய் பேச இயலாத மாற்றுத்திறனாளி. இவர், 2013 நவ., 2ல் கடைக்கு சென்றார். அப்போது ஓசூர் பாகலூர் ரோட்டை சேர்ந்த ஆர்.சுரேஷ், 26, பாரதியார் நகரை சேர்ந்த எஸ்.சுரேஷ், 23, ஆகியோர் சிறுமியை கடத்தி, பாலியல் பலாத்காரம் செய்தனர். அப்போதைய ஓசூர் ஹட்கோ இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் தங்கவேல், எஸ்.ஐ., சாவித்திரி ஆகியோர் விசாரணை நடத்தி, இருவரையும் கைது செய்தனர். அவர்கள் மீது பாலியல் பலாத்காரம் செய்தல், கொலை மிரட்டல், கொலை முயற்சி ஆகிய பிரிவுகளின் கீழ் வழக்குப்பதிவு செய்தனர். கிருஷ்ணகிரி மகளிர் நீதிமன்றத்தில் வழக்கு நடந்து வந்தது. வழக்கை விசாரித்த நீதிபதி நேற்று தீர்ப்பு வழங்கினார். அதன்படி ஆர்.சுரேஷூக்கு ஆயுள் தண்டனையில் பாதி, 5,000 ரூபாய் அபராதம், கட்டத் தவறினால் மூன்று மாத சிறை, கொலை மிரட்டல் பிரிவிற்கு மூன்று ஆண்டு சிறை, 1,000 ரூபாய் அபராதம் விதித்தார். எஸ்.சுரேஷூக்கு ஆயுள் தண்டனையில் பாதி, 6,000 ரூபாய் அபராதம், தவறும் பட்சத்தில் மூன்று மாத சிறை தண்டனை விதித்தார். அரசு தரப்பில் வக்கீல் கலையரசி ஆஜரானார்.

அஹமதாபாத்தில் காது கேளாத, வாய் பேச முடியாத பெண் ஒருவரை பாலியல் வன்கொடுமை செய்த மாற்றுத்திறனாளி இளைஞர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளார்.

குஜராத் மாநிலம் அஹமதாபாத் அருகே உள்ள அம்ராய்வாடி என்ற பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த காது கேளாத, வாய் பேச முடியாத 23 வயது பெண் ஒருவர் கடந்த ஞாயிறன்று வீட்டிலிருந்து காணாமல் போயுள்ளார். இரண்டு நாட்களாக அந்தப் பெண்ணை அவருடைய குடும்பத்தினர் தீவிரமாகத் தேடி வந்துள்ளனர். இந்நிலையில் அதே பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த மங்கேஷ் பரத்வாஜ் என்னும் மாற்றுத்திறனாளி இளைஞர் தனது 3 சக்கர வாகனத்தில் அந்தப் பெண்ணை அவருடைய வீட்டுக்கு அழைத்து வந்துள்ளார். அங்கு பெண்ணின் குடும்பத்தினரிடம் அருகிலுள்ள மைதானம் ஒன்றில் அந்தப் பெண் இருந்ததாகவும், தான் அவரைப் பார்த்து அழைத்து வந்ததாகவும் கூறியுள்ளார்.

ஆனால் அந்தப் பெண்ணின் ஆடைகள் கிழிந்தும், கறைபட்டும் இருந்ததைப் பார்த்த அவருடைய குடும்பத்தினருக்கு மங்கேஷின் நடவடிக்கையில் சந்தேகம் வந்துள்ளது. இதைத்தொடர்ந்து மங்கேஷ் கூறிய மைதானத்திற்கு அவரையும் அந்தப் பெண்ணையும் அழைத்துச் சென்ற குடும்பத்தினர் அங்கிருந்த ஒருவரிடம் தங்கள் பெண்ணை காட்டி, இவரை இங்கு பார்த்திருக்கிறீர்களா எனக் கேட்டுள்ளார்கள்.

அதற்கு அவர் 2 நாட்களுக்கு முன்னால் மாற்றுத்திறனாளி இளைஞர் ஒருவர் அந்தப் பெண்ணை அங்கு கூட்டி வந்ததாகக் கூற, பாதிக்கப்பட்ட பெண்ணின் குடும்பத்தினர் மங்கேஷிடம் தீவிரமாக விசாரித்துள்ளனர். அதில் மங்கேஷ் அந்தப் பெண்ணை பாலியல் வன்கொடுமை செய்தது தெரியவந்துள்ளது. இதைத்தொடர்ந்து அவர்கள் அளித்த புகாரின் அடிப்படையில் வழக்குப்பதிவு செய்துள்ள போலீஸார் மங்கேஷைக் கைது செய்துள்ளனர்.

Deaf-owned pizzeria opening in D.C. will be staffed by all deaf employees

WASHINGTON (ABC7) - Melody and Russ Stein, who are both deaf, are working to open a new Neapolitan-style pizzeria in Washington, D.C., with all deaf employees working the restaurant.

Mozzeria, set to open in the Spring of 2020, will be located on 1300 H St. NE, down the street from Gallaudet University.

The pizzeria is already successful in San Francisco, this will be their second location.

The owners, Russ and Melody Stein did not get here by chance but by hard work.

Melody, who grew up in a restaurant, was turned away from culinary school because she's deaf.

Now, the husband and wife run one of the top rated restaurants in San Francisco.

All of the employees are deaf and communicate using American Sign Language (ASL).

Melody and Russ Stein, co-founders of Mozzeria said "Russ and I are both excited about Mozzeria expanding to Washington D.C. Having a restaurant in D.C. has been a long-time dream of ours. Washington D.C. holds a special place in our hearts because that's where we met at Gallaudet University. Washington D.C. is considered a mecca for deaf people."

This will also mark the second ASL-centric business on H Street joining the Starbucks Signing Store that opened last fall.

Mozzeria and other deaf-owned eateries have shown that putting deaf customers front and center can lead to success.

According to CSD Social Venture Fund, 70% of deaf people are unemployed or underemployed.

Dominic Lacy is the Chief Innovation Officer of Communication Service for the Deaf and head of the CSD Social Venture Fund. CSD Social Venture Fund is the nation’s first venture fund for deaf owned and operated businesses which is providing significant support for Mozzeria’s national expansion to D.C. and eventually other cities.

Lacy explained "We want to disprove all doubt that deaf people are capable workers by doing and showing real-life examples rather than just talking about it, though talking about it is a must. Melody and Russ made the decision to hire all deaf employees a few years back at their San Francisco location and have not regretted it and, for us, this is a way of "walking our talk" by supporting a business model that directly invests in deaf people."

Lacy says they hope to open eight to 12 locations around the country.

Defying odds, hearing-impaired Kochi siblings race ahead in life

KOCHI: Siblings Sophia M Joe and Richard K Joe, hailing from Eroor, have always been fond of driving. The fact they are hearing-impaired didn’t douse their enthusiasm to vroom ahead. Once Richard earned his driving licence, he expressed his desire to become a bike racer. Sophia too soon followed suit. Like always, their parents Joe Francis and Goretti Joe wholeheartedly supported them.

Soon, the duo set out on a journey to realise their dreams. Joe Francis took his children to many racing academies but were turned down. “We went all over South India. I was even insulted by a trainer in Chennai. He said even a blind can be on the race track, but not a hearing-impaired. We were shattered,” says Joe. Finally, their search took them to Apex Racing Academy in Bengaluru. “They were thrilled to receive us and took the training as a challenge,” adds Joe.

His words reflect the determination and enthusiasm his children share. “Getting a driving license itself was a difficult task. Officials wanted to know why a hearing-impaired person would want to drive. My children are very determined and they overcame all hurdles,” says a proud Joe.

The training sessions were mostly held during weekends in Coimbatore. Joe took Richard and Sophia to the city and stayed there for training. Things were quite expensive. The accommodation, travel expense, training fees, rent for the racing suit, track, bike and boot comes around Rs 1 lakh.

“They both cleared Level 2. They will get the license once they clear Level 3. It should have been finished by last year, but both got an offer for a film called ‘Shabdham’ where Richard played Sophia’s son. So, level 3 will have to wait,” says Joe.

The training was backbreaking. “But, racers who saw them perform were impressed. They praised me but I told them all the credit goes to the duo,” says Joe. Sophia and Richard are also undergoing training at TVS Academy. They hope to contest in the National Racing Championship.

However, the high expense incurred for training is a hindrance. They are now looking for a sponsor. “We are retired from government services. We have given our everything for children. Though our efforts are appreciated, no academy is willing to waive off fee. If they get a sponsor, they can scale heights,” says Joe.

Sophia is also the first deaf woman to get a driving licence in Kerala. She had contested for shot put competition at national levels and won many prizes. She was also the first runner-up of Miss Deaf India 2014 and represented India in Miss Deaf World competition.

Deaf and mute woman gangraped in Chhattisgarh

A 22-year-old deaf and mute woman was allegedly raped by five men in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district, police said on Tuesday.

All the accused have been arrested.

The alleged incident took place on the night of August 25 in a village under the Marwahi police station limits, said Pradip Arya, Station House Officer (SHO).

The woman was returning home from the market when the accused forced her to sit on a motorcycle and took her to a nearby secluded place where they allegedly raped her.

After committing the crime they fled, leaving her at the spot.

On reaching home, she narrated the incident to her mother and aunt through sign language, after which a compliant was lodged at Marwahi police station on Monday, Arya said.

The police called up a teacher from a school for the differently-abled to communicate with the girl.

The accused were identified as Dole Kujur, Sanjiv Kumar Uraon, Suraj Lahre, Krishna Kujur and Gauri Shankar Uraon, and all of them were soon rounded up.

A case of gang rape and other relevant offences under the Indian Penal Code was registered against them, the SHO said, adding that further probe was on.

மதுரையைச் சேர்ந்த வழக்கறிஞர் பகவத்சிங், ஐகோர்ட் கிளையில் தாக்கல் செய்த மனுவில், தேசிய கல்வி கொள்கையின் வரைவு அறிக்கையை அரசியலமைப்பு அட்டவணை அங்கீகரித்துள்ள தமிழ் உள்ளிட்ட 22 மொழிகளிலும் மொழி பெயர்த்து வெளியிட வேண்டும். பின்னர் அந்தந்த மாநில மக்களிடம் கருத்து கேட்டறிந்து தேசிய கல்வி கொள்கையை அமல்படுத்த வேண்டும் எனக் கூறப்பட்டிருந்தது.

இந்த மனு நீதிபதிகள் சத்யநாராயணன், புகழேந்தி அமர்வில் நேற்று (வெள்ளிக்கிழமை ) விசாரணைக்கு வந்த போது, தேசிய கல்வி கொள்கையின் வரைவு அறிக்கையை பார்வையற்றவர்கள், செவித்திறன் குறைபாடுடைய மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் முழுமையாக படிப்பதற்கு சிறப்பு வசதிகள் செய்யப்படவில்லை. கருத்து கேட்பு கூட்டங்களிலும் மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் அனுமதிக்கப்படுவதில்லை. இதனால் பார்வையற்றோர், செவித்திறன் குறைபாடுடையவர்களும் தேசிய கல்வி கொள்கையின் வரைவு அறிக்கையை படிக்க போதிய கால அவகாசம் வழங்க வேண்டும் என தீபக் நாதன் என்பவர் புதிய மனுவை தாக்கல் செய்தார்.

மத்திய அரசு வழக்கறிஞர் வாதிடுகையில், தேசிய கல்விக் கொள்கையின் வரைவு அறிக்கை ஆங்கிலம், இந்தியில் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. பிற மாநில மொழிகளில் அதனுடைய சுருக்கம் மொழிபெயர்த்து வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. வரைவு அறிக்கையை முழுமையாக அனைத்து மொழிகளிலும் மொழி பெயர்த்து வழங்க வேண்டுமென்பது தேவையற்றது. பொதுமக்களிடம் கருத்து கேட்பு கூட்டங்கள் நடைபெற்று வருகின்றன என்றார்.

இதையடுத்து தேசிய கல்வி கொள்கை வரைவு அறிக்கையை பார்வையற்றோர், செவித்திறன் குறைபாடுடையோர் படிப்பதற்கான சிறப்பு வசதிகள் தொடர்பாக மத்திய அரசு பதிலளிக்க உத்தரவிட்டு, விசாரணையை செப்டம்பர் மாதம் 19-ம் தேதிக்கு நீதிபதிகள் ஒத்திவைத்தனர்.
