2 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு காணாமல் போன வாய்பேச முடியாத, காதுகேட்காத நபரை, குடும்பத்துடன் சேர்த்து வைத்துள்ளது ஒரு டிக் டாக் வீடியோ. தெலங்கானாவில் நடந்திருக்கும் இந்த சம்பவம் நெகிழ்ச்சியை ஏற்படுத்தி வருகிறது.

தெலங்கானா மாநிலம் பத்ராத்தி கோதகுடம் மாவட்டத்தை சேர்ந்தவர் ரோதம் வெங்கடேஸ்வரலு. இவர் கடந்த 2018 ஏப்ரல் மாதம் காணாமல் போனார்.

இதுபற்றி போலீசிடம் வெங்கடேஸ்வரலுவின் குடும்பத்தினர் புகார் அளித்தனர். ஆனால் எவ்வளவு தேடியும், அவர் கிடைக்கவில்லை.

இங்கு குறிப்பிடப்பட வேண்டிய விஷயம் என்னவென்றால், வெங்கடேஸ்வரலுவுக்கு காது கேட்காது; பேசவும் முடியாது. இதனால் அவருக்கு என்ன ஆனதோ என்ற பதட்டத்தில் குடும்பத்தினர் இருந்தனர். நீண்ட நாட்கள் ஆனதால் அவர் உயிரிழந்திருக்க கூடும் என்று கருதி அவருக்கு இறுதிச் சடங்குகளையும் குடும்பத்தினர் செய்து முடித்தனர்.

இந்த நிலையில் சில தினங்களுக்கு முன்பாக பஞ்சாப் மாநிலம் லூதியானாவில், பொது முடக்கத்தால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டோருக்கு உணவு விநியோகம் செய்யப்பட்டது. இதனை போலீஸ் கான்ஸ்டபிள் அஜய் சிங் விடியோ எடுத்து டிக்டாக்கில் வெளியிட்டுள்ளார்.

வெங்கேடஸ்வரலுவின் கிராமத்தை சேர்ந்த ஒருவர் கடந்த வியாழன் அன்று இந்த வீடியோவை பார்த்து, இது அவர்தானா என்பதை உறுதி செய்ய, வெங்கடேஸ்வரலுவின் மகள் கனகதுர்காவிடம் காண்பித்துள்ளார். இதில், 2 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு காணாமல் போன தனது தந்தைதான் என்பதை துர்கா உறுதி செய்தார்.

இதையடுத்து பஞ்சாபுக்கு விரைந்த வெங்கடேஸ்வரலுவின் மகன் பெட்டிராஜு, லூதியானா போலீஸ் இணை கமிஷனரை பார்த்து நடந்தவற்றை கூறியுள்ளார். இதன்பின்னர் போலீஸ் உதவியுடன் வெங்கேடஸ்வரலு கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டார். தந்தையும், மகனும் சந்தித்துக்கொண்டபோது கண்ணீர் விட்டு அழுது பாசத்தை பகிர்ந்து கொண்டனர். தற்போது குடும்பத்தினருடன் வெங்கடேஸ்வரலு இணைந்துள்ளார்.

இறந்துவிட்டார் என்று எண்ணி இறுதிச் சடங்கு முடித்த நிலையில், வெங்கடேஸ்வரலு ஊர் திரும்பிய சம்பவம் தெலங்கானாவில் நெகிழ்ச்சியை ஏற்படுத்தி வருகிறது.

`எதிர்பார்க்கல...வேலை கிடைச்சிருச்சு!' -மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் குடும்பத்துக்கு உதவிய அமைச்சர்

``விகடன் இணையதளத்தில் வெளியான செய்தியை முழுமையாகப் படித்தேன். கடைசி வரியில், தூய்மைப் பணியாளர் வேலை கொடுத்தால்கூட போதும் என்று அந்தப் பெண் கூறியிருந்தார்" -நகராட்சி ஆணையர்.

புதுக்கோட்டை காந்தி நகரில் வசிக்கும் ராஜூ - வசந்தா தம்பதிக்கு 5 மகள்கள், 2 மகன்கள் என மொத்தம் 7 பிள்ளைகள். இதில், 4 பெண்கள், 2 ஆண்கள் என 6 பேர் காது கேட்காத, வாய் பேச முடியாத மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள். கடைக்குட்டி பெண்ணான தனலட்சுமி மட்டும் எந்தவித பிரச்னையும் இல்லாமல் பிறந்துவிட்டார்.

பல வருடங்களாகவே செருப்பு தைத்து குடும்பத்தைக் காப்பாற்றி வந்த ராஜூ, தண்டுவட பாதிப்பால் கடந்த 10 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் முடங்கிவிட்டார். அதன்பின்பு, வீட்டு வேலைக்குச் சென்று குடும்பத்தைக் காப்பாற்றிவந்த வசந்தாவும் நோய்வாய்ப்பட்டு வீட்டிலேயே முடங்கவே, படிப்பைப் பாதியில் நிறுத்திய கடைக்குட்டி தனலட்சுமி, அம்மா செய்துவந்த வேலையான வீட்டு வேலையைச் செய்து தனது அப்பா அம்மாவுடன், மாற்றுத்திறனாளி சகோதர சகோதரிகளையும் காப்பாற்றிவந்தார். இந்த நிலையில், ஊரடங்கு உத்தரவால் தனலட்சுமிக்கு வீட்டு வேலை கிடைக்கவில்லை.

அதனால், அந்தக் குடும்பம் சாப்பாட்டுக்கே சிரமப்படும் நிலைக்குத் தள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த நேரத்தில், அரசு நிவாரணம் கொடுக்கவில்லை என்றாலும், கழிவறை கழுவும் வேலையாக இருந்தாலும், ஒரு வேலையை அரசு ஏற்பாடு செய்து கொடுத்தால் குடும்பத்தை மீட்டுக்கொண்டு வந்துவிடுவேன் என்று கூறினார். இதுபற்றி ஜூன் 27-ம் தேதி, "9 பேரில் 6 பேர் மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள்!' -கொரோனா ஊரடங்கால் பரிதவிக்கும் குடும்பம்" என்ற தலைப்பில் விகடன் இணையதளத்தில் விரிவாக செய்தியைப் பதிவு செய்திருந்தோம்.

இதைப் பார்த்த நகராட்சி ஆணையர் சுப்ரமணியன், உடனே அதிகாரிகளை அனுப்பிவைத்து, அந்தக் குடும்பம் குறித்த விவரங்களைத் திரட்டினார். இதுகுறித்த தகவலை சுகாதாரத்துறை அமைச்சர் விஜயபாஸ்கரின் கவனத்துக்குக் கொண்டுசென்ற ஆணையர், அவரிடம் அந்தக் குடும்பத்தின் நிலை குறித்துக் கூறியுள்ளார். உடனே, அந்தப் பெண்ணுக்கு தூய்மைப்பணியாளர் வேலையைக் கொடுக்க அமைச்சர் பரிந்துரைசெய்தார். தற்போது, தனலட்சுமி நகராட்சியில் தூய்மைப் பணியாளராக வேலையைத் தொடங்கிவிட்டார்.

தனலட்சுமியிடம் பேசினோம், " மூணு இடத்துல வீட்டு வேலை செஞ்சு குடும்பத்தைக் காப்பாத்திட்டு இருந்தேன். ஊரடங்கு வந்ததாலதான் வீட்டு வேலைக்கும் போக முடியாம ரொம்பவே கஷ்டப்பட்டுட்டு இருந்தேன். சாப்பாட்டுக்கும் வழியில்லை. அந்த நேரத்தில், தெரிஞ்ச அண்ணன் ஒருத்தரு, அம்மா உணவகத்தின் மூலம் கொஞ்சநாள் சாப்பாடு கிடைக்க வழி செஞ்சாரு. தூய்மைப் பணியாளர் வேலை கிடைச்சா போதும் என்றுதான் நெனச்சுக்கிட்டு இருந்தேன். நான் எதிர்பார்க்கவே இல்லை, வேலை கிடைச்சிருச்சு. நல்லா வேலைபார்த்து இந்த வேலையை கெட்டியா பிடிச்சிக்குவேன். என்னுடைய வேலைக்காக விகடன் செஞ்ச இந்த உதவியை எங்க காலம் உள்ள வரைக்கும் மறக்க மாட்டோம்" என்றார் நெகிழ்ச்சியுடன்.

கொரோனா ஊரடங்கு உத்தரவால், தற்போது தனலட்சுமிக்குச் சரிவர வீட்டுவேலை கூட கிடைக்கவில்லை என்பதால், சாப்பாட்டுக்கே சிரமப்படும் நிலைக்குத் தள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளது அந்தக் குடும்பம். எப்படிக் குடும்பத்தைக் காப்பாற்றப் போகிறோம் என்று தெரியாமல் தனலட்சுமி பரிதவித்து வருகிறார்.

தனலட்சுமியிடம் பேசினோம், ``அப்பா, அம்மா வீட்டிலேயே முடங்கினதுக்கு அப்புறம் வேற வழியில்லாமல்தான் வீட்டு வேலைக்குப் போக ஆரம்பிச்சேன். அக்கா எல்லாரும் ஆரம்பத்துல என்னோட வீட்டு வேலைக்கு வந்து ஒத்தாசையாக இருந்தாங்க. பக்கத்துல வந்து கூப்பிட்டு வேலை சொல்ல வேண்டியிருக்குன்னு சொல்லி, அந்த வீட்டு முதலாளி வேலைக்கு வேண்டாம்னு அவங்கள விரட்டி விட்டுட்டாரு.

நெல்லை மாவட்டம் மானூர் அருகே உள்ள உக்கிரன்கோட்டையை சேர்ந்தவர் கிறிஸ்டோபர் (வயது 43). தனியார் நிறுவனத்தில் வேலை செய்து வந்தார். மேலும் இவர் பேச முடியாத மற்றும் காது கேளாத மாற்றுத்திறனாளி ஆவார். இந்த நிலையில் நேற்று மதியம் தனது மொபட்டில் அருகில் உள்ள ரெட்டியார்பட்டிக்கு சென்று விட்டு உக்கிரன்கோட்டைக்கு திரும்பி வந்து கொண்டிருந்தார்.

அப்போது அந்த வழியாக கழுகுமலையை சேர்ந்த கணேசன் (60) என்பவர் ஓட்டி வந்த லாரியும், அவரது மொபட்டும் மோதிக் கொண்டன. இதில் கிறிஸ்டோபர் படுகாயம் அடைந்து சம்பவ இடத்திலேயே பரிதாபமாக இறந்தார்.

இதுகுறித்து கிறிஸ்டோபரின் சகோதரி மெர்லின் (40), மானூர் போலீசில் புகார் செய்தார். அதன் பேரில் இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் சிவகுமார் வழக்குப்பதிவு செய்து விசாரணை நடத்தி வருகிறார்.

இறந்து போன கிறிஸ்டோபருக்கு அபிதா (40) என்ற மனைவியும், மேபல் (6) என்ற மகனும் உள்ளனர். இதில் அபிதாவும் வாய் பேச முடியாத மற்றும் காது கேளாத மாற்றுத்திறனாளி என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

According to reports, Talhullah signs ‘have a good day’ after which Tim teaches her to sign ‘good morning, have a good day’ as well.

While the clip ends with Tim pleasantly smiling and giving the eight-year-old a big thumbs up, Amy wrote in the caption informed that Tallulah gets to see the delivery man one or two times a week. The mother also wrote that the little girl also drew a thank you for Tim, which he still has it ‘proudly shown in his van’. Amy further added that Tallulah and Tim have built ‘quite a friendship’ amid COVID-19 lockdown.

SAI to appoint differently-abled coaches for hearing and speech impaired athletes

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) may soon appoint differently-abled coaches to work with hearing and speech impaired athletes after Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju “agreed in principle” to the recommendation of All India Sports Council for Deaf (AISCFD).

In a virtual meeting with the Sports Minister, which was also attended by 16 other National Sports Federations (NSFs), the AISCFD on Thursday highlighted the need for differenty abled coaches for its athletes for clear communication.

“The All India Sports Council for Deaf highlighted the communication problems of their athletes with able bodied coaches and requested the Minister to consider employing differently-abled coaches for hearing and speech impaired athletes,” an NSF official who was present in the meeting told PTI.

“The Minister applauded the suggestion and agreed in principle. He asked the Sports Authority of India officials to look into the matter on urgent basis.” Thursday’s meeting was the second round of virtual meeting of Rijiju with NSFs after he interacted with 15 federations on Tuesday to discuss the way forward in terms of training of athletes, participation in national and international competitions and organising sporting events in India.

Besides AISCFD, others present in Thursday’s meeting were NSF officials from tennis, kabaddi, chess, basketball, bridge, billiards and snooker, equestrian, handball, kayaking and canoeing, squash, sepaktakraw, volleyball, wushu, yachting, Special Olympic Bharat and Association of Indian University.

During the meeting the NSFs discussed their short and long-term goals with the minister and called for immediate resumption of training which has been suspended since March because of the coronavirus-forced lockdown.

“The NSFs shared their short and long term goals with the minister. They said their immediate priority is to resume training and assess whether small events can be orgainsed without spectators in a controlled environment,” an official present in the meeting said.

“The NSFs also discussed their long-term goals which is primarily preparing for big events. They said they are looking start their national training camps from September or October.” The official said most of the NSFs said they are yet to finalise their Annual Competition and Training Calendar as they are still waiting for the finalisation of international calendar which has been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association sought the government’s permission to resume training of their 20 to 30 top athletes in a green zone. Wushu, handball and sepaktakraw federations called on the government to include their sports in Khelo India Games.

WHO’s Covid course in ISL to help the hearing-impaired

KOCHI: The Covid-19 pandemic has ushered in the new normal of social distancing. While social distancing in itself has brought many discomforts to the general public, its effect on the hearing-impaired community has been manifold. Many of them are left with very few authentic sources of information on the virus. In this context, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has uploaded a course on ‘Introduction to Covid-19’, in Indian Sign Language (ISL), ensuring accessibility to the deaf community. The course is available on the Massive Open Online Course platform of WHO (OpenWHO). The video in sign language has been developed by ISL interpreter Vinayachandran B S, a native of Thiruvananthapuram.

As per the 2011 Census, 2.68 crore Indians were found to be disabled out of a population of 121 crore. Of the total number of disabled, 19 per cent were registered as hearing-impaired. The Indian Sign Language is a mother tongue of sorts for the community, even though technological advancements such as hearing aids have made it possible for the deaf to communicate. The course can be utilised by deaf community and rehabilitation professionals across the country. Uploaded in May, the course has over 40,000 enrolments so far.

“There was a barrage of misinformation about the pandemic. The hearing-impaired community is one that is at a risk of imbibing such information. Hence I wrote to the WHO about the possibility of making verified information available in ISL. Their response was immediate and there was constant support throughout the process. The video in sign language also has voice-over in Hindi, to make it accessible for all,” said Vinayachandran who is currently working on two more videos to be added to the course. He had also been preparing the Covid-19 news bulletin for NISH, Thiruvananthapuram for three months since the outbreak of pandemic. The one-of-a-kind initiative of the institute ensured that there were daily news updates on the situation for the deaf community.

“Information being circulated by various agencies on the frontlines of combating the pandemic is in print format. The deaf community has relatively poor literacy skills making this information obsolete for them. Ranveer Singh campaigns to make sign language official in India: What is the ISL?

The sign language is a system of communication using gestures, signs and facial experiences used by the deaf people in India. There have been demands to make the Indian Sign Language the 23rd official language.

Leading actor in Hindi cinema Ranveer Singh is campaigning for the Indian Sign Language (ISL) to be declared as an official language in the nation. Ranveer plans to sign an official petition filed by the National Association of Deaf (NAD), with the support of Access Mantra Foundation, to increase awareness. He urged people to show their support for the cause. Ranveer also released Spitfire’s Vartalap, a sign-language video under his label IncInk.

There are 22 official languages recognised in India and Ranveer’s campaign is towards making ISL the 23rd official language. "I urge my fellow Indians to join this cause and give it momentum by building awareness about it. We are also releasing our first sign language video on Spitfire's latest track 'Vartalap' with the hope that the track will trigger more conversations on the issue," he said in his appeal.

Ranveer’s appeal takes forward NAD’s demand to make the ISL an official language by an amendment in the Constitution of India. Earlier, the NAD made the inclusion of an interpreter on DD national possible.
What is sign language?

The sign language is a system of communication that uses gestures and signs, as used by the hearing-impaired people. The Indian Sign Language is commonly used among the deaf people in India. There are 18 million deaf persons in India for whom the sign language is their first language as opposed to a written language.

ISL Dictionary

The ISL has evolved in the last 100 years. The Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC) launched the second edition of the Indian Sign Language Dictionary last year on February, 27. It includes 6,000 words under the categories of academic, legal, medical, technical and everyday terms. The dictionary was developed by ISLRTC under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. The first edition of the dictionary with 3,000 words was launched in March 2018.

There are 20 lakh deaf children in India, of whom 12 lakh are enrolled in more than 500 schools. Most teachers do not use Indian Sign Language as their primary language to teach deaf children but speak and gesture with their hands, which deaf students often do not understand them. Consequently, they fall behind in studies. Giving ISL the 23rd official language of India, would give deaf students access to information from parents and teachers in school and at home. It would also enable and empower the states and UTs to have a team of qualified interpreters who can interpret for the deaf people.
