THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Australian cricketer Brett Lee will reach the state capital on Friday to attend the family meet of children who have undergone cochlear implantations. Brett Lee is a global hearing ambassador.
On the occasion, the government will launch "Kathoram'" project, which is intended to provide the cochlear implantation for the children who are affected the hearing loss. The project aims at the rehabilitation and treatment of disabled persons in the state.
The scheme intends to provide free surgery to hearing-impaired children in the age group of 0-5 years. With Kathoram, children will be monitored from the day of their birth to the next 18 months. The idea is to make them ready to go to school by the time they complete three-and-a-half-years of age, said the minister.
The Rs 100-crore Anu Yatra project of the government also plans to develop intervention centres, 28 model child rehabilitation centres, 25 mobile intervention units, comprehensive insurance and universal identity cards, said health minister K K Shylaja.
