சிவகங்கையில் மூன்று ஆண்டுகளில் காது கேளாத 50 பேருக்கு அறுவை சிகிச்சை

சிவகங்கை:சிவகங்கை அரசு மருத்துவக்கல்லுாரி மருத்துவமனையில் கடந்த மூன்று ஆண்டுகளில் பிறவி காது கேளாத 50 குழந்தைகளுக்கு நத்தைச்சுருள் அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்து டாக்டர்கள் சாதனை படைத்துள்ளனர்.

சிவகங்கை அரசு மருத்துவக்கல்லுாரி மருத்துவமனையில் முதலமைச்சரின் விரிவான மருத்துவக்காப்பீடு திட்டத்தில் பிறவி காது கேளாத குழந்தைகளுக்கு நத்தைச்சுருள் அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்யப்படுகிறது. கடந்த 3 ஆண்டுகளில் 50 குழந்தைகளுக்கு இந்த அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. நேற்று 50 வது அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்யப்பட்டதையொட்டி சிறப்பு கருத்தரங்கம் நடந்தது.

கருத்தரங்கிற்கு டீன் குழந்தைவேலு தலைமை வகித்தார். இ.என்.டி., துறைத்தலைவர் டாக்டர் நாகசுப்ரமணியன் வரவேற்றார். மெட்ராஸ் இ.என்.டி., ஆராய்ச்சி பவுண்டேஷன் நிர்வாக இயக்குனர் டாக்டர் மோகன் காமேஸ்வரன், உதவிப்பேராசிரியர் யோகநாத், மருத்துவ கண்காணிப்பாளர் டாக்டர் ஷீலா, பேராசிரியர் அழகு வடிவேல் நிலைய மருத்துவ அலுவலர்கள் டாக்டர் மீனா, டாக்டர் மிதின் குமார் பங்கேற்றனர்.50 அறுவை சிகிச்சையின் போது சிறப்பாக செயல்பட்ட மருத்துவர்கள் கவுரவிக்கப்பட்டனர்.

டீன் குழந்தைவேலு கூறியதாவது: தமிழகத்திலேயே குறைந்த வயதாக, ஒரு வயது 7 நாட்கள் கொண்ட குழந்தைக்கு இங்கு தான் இந்த அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. இங்கு பிறவி செவிதிறன் குறைபாடு குழந்தைகளை கண்டறிய நவீன பரிசோதனை கருவிகளும், அதற்கான சிறப்பு அறையும் உள்ளது. அறுவை சிகிச்சைக்கு பிறகு ஒன்றரை வருடம் சிறப்பு பேச்சு பயிற்சி அளிக்கப்படுகிறது. சென்னைக்கு அடுத்தபடியாக இங்கு தான் இச்சிகிச்சை சிறப்பாக செயல்படுத்தப்படுகிறது, என்றார். தொடர்ந்து 50 வது அறுவை சிகிச்சை நினைவாக கல்லுாரி வளாகத்தில் மரக்கன்றுகள் நடப்பட்டது.

நாமக்கல் மாவட்டம், பரமத்தி வேலூர் வட்டம், ஜேடர்பாளையம் காவல்நிலைய எல்லைக்குட்பட்ட கபிலர்மலை அரசு மேல்நிலைப்பள்ளியில் 9-ம் வகுப்பு படித்து வரும் ஆதி என்ற மாணவன் சுரேந்தரன் ( காது கேட்காத, வாய் பேச முடியாத ) என்ற மாணவரை கடந்த 17-10-2019-ந்தேதி மாலை நேரத்தில் பள்ளியில் கடுமையாக தாக்கியுள்ளான். பள்ளி முடிந்து வெளியே வந்த சுரேந்தரை ஆதி மற்றும் அவருடைய அண்ணன் அதே பள்ளியில் 10-ம் வகுப்பு படிப்பவர் மற்றும் ஆதியின் உறவினர் கலைமணி ஆகியோர் கொலைவெறி தாக்குதல் நடத்தியுள்ளார்கள்.

தாக்குதலுக்கு சுரேந்திரன் மாணவனின் சித்தப்பாவிடம் கலைமணி என்பவர் தொலைபேசியில் தொடர்பு கொண்டு உன் மகனை அடித்து சக்கராபாளையத்தில் எரித்து விட்டேன் என்று கூறியுள்ளார். மேற்படி மாணவன் சுரேந்தர் பரமத்தி வேலூர் அரசு மருத்துவமனையில் 4-நாட்களாக அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டு சிகிச்சை பெற்று வருகிறார். இன்று தகவல் அறிந்து தாக்குதலுக்கு ஆளான மாணவன் சுரேந்திர் அவர்களை மருத்துவமனைக்கு நேரில் சென்று ஆறுதல் கூறிவிட்டு வழக்கு பதிவு செய்ய தமிழ் புலிகள் கட்சி சார்பில் கோரிக்கை வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

Odisha Government To Empanel Sign Language Interpreters At Police Stations

Speaking to ANI, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Sulochana Das said that the interpreters will assist divyangs in recording their statements and filing FIRs at the police stations

In a first, Odisha Government will empanel sign language interpreters at the police stations to assist people with hearing and speaking disabilities.

Speaking to ANI, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Sulochana Das said that the interpreters will assist divyangs in recording their statements and filing FIRs at the police stations.

"Deaf and mute people are very prone to crime and they can''t explain the crime. It is difficult to understand their language also. So, Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 has mentioned that every police station should have a sign language instructor," she said.

She also said that besides registering the police complaints, these interpreters will also provide help to such citizens in further legal proceedings.

"They will help specially-abled persons to register their FIR and also interpret their feelings in the court. We have given a list of 13 certified sign language instructors to the police," she said.

In absence of interpretors, people with speaking and hearing disabilities encounter extreme difficulty in regestering their cases and narrating their ordeal to concerned law and order authorities.

Building for school for deaf demanded in Kakinada

20.10.2019, Kakinada: Students Federation of India (SFI) city secretary M Ganga Suri Babu demanded that the State government construct a permanent building to house the school for the deaf. He along with other members, surveyed the school for the deaf at Sambamurthy Nagar Kakinada on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that 86 deaf students were studying from Class I to X at the school. For the past three years, the deaf students have been struggling with the poor accommodation facilities here. The government had failed to provide any facilities for deaf students, he lamented. They are facing plenty of problems in the school. He demanded that the government immediately build the school building to put an end to the woes of the children. Otherwise, it would be very difficult for the handicapped students to learn anything, he added.

Indian tennis: Prithvi Sekhar is new World Deaf champion, Bhatia in women’s singles final in Lagos

Sekhar did not drop a set in Antalya and defeated Czech Republic’s Jaroslav Smedek 6-4, 6-3 in the men’s singles final.

India’s Prithvi Sekhar did not drop as he became the men’s singles champion in the World Deaf Tennis Championship in Antalya, Turkey, while Riya Bhatia reached the women’s singles final of the $25000 ITF tournament in Lagos, Nigeria.

The 26-year-old, who trains under Sureshkumar Sonachalam in Chennai, defeated Czech Republic’s Jaroslav Smedek 6-4, 6-3 in the men’s singles final. Unseeded in the singles competition, Prithvi had defeated four seeded players in the competition including top seed Gabor Mathe of Hungary in the semi-finals.

Earlier, he had won the men’s doubles bronze medal partnering Prashanth Dasharath Harsambhavi. The duo defeated third seed Mario Kargl and Jurgen Scheutz of Austria 6-3, 6-0 in the bronze medal play-off.

2nd Deaf World Tennis Tourney: Prithvi Sekhar, Prashant Enter Semi-Finals

India’s Prithvi Sekhar, teaming up with Mysuru lad Prashant Hamsabhavi, entered the Men’s Doubles Semi-finals in the 2nd World Tennis Championships being held at Antalya, Turkey, on Wednesday. Prithvi Sekhar has also entered the Semi-finals in the Men’s Singles event.

Deaf Cricket Society to play 2 T20s, 3 ODIs in South Africa

The Deaf Cricket Society (DCS), India's team will be participating in the Deaf International Cricket Series 2019 at Kroonstad, South Africa, on the invitation of Deaf Cricket South Africa.

The tournament consisting of two T20s and three ODIs will be played from November 24 to December 4.

An auditory-challenged player himself, Sumit Jain, Secretary, DCS asserted: "The caliber of India's deaf cricket team members has been proven via their good performances in recent tournaments.

"Therefore, the invitation to play in South Africa's ODI tournament marks a proud moment for the country and its physically-challenged sports members, offering them another opportunity to prove their sporting credentials. Moreover, such sports enable the players to enjoy moments of personal and professional glory every time they participate in international tournaments."

Reena Jain Malhotra, Patron, DCS, India, said, "DCS is managed by differently-abled members who are committed to prove that they are a reflection of the immense capabilities existing within each of us."

Rory Hickson, Chairman, Deaf Cricket South Africa, commented: "We believe disability sports are one of the best ways to overcome such challenges by organising national and international tournaments where the top teams test their mettle. From Winning 3 Deaflympic Wrestling Gold Medals To Working As A Clerk, Virender Singh Has Pretty Much Been Forgotten

Virender Singh is not a name many people will know about. The man cannot hear and yet he has done wonders for India inside the wrestling ring. Goonga Pehelwan was a documentary made on his life and why not? He certainly deserves it.

He has won 3 gold and one bronze medal in the Deaflympics along with silver and bronze in the World Deaf Wrestling Championship. Now those are a lot of medals.

He was born into a farmer's family in Haryana and has not been able to hear since he was a kid. As a deaf child he was bullied in his village before his father and uncle took him to Delhi to train as a wrestler as the sport was their family tradition. His talent was evident and Virender slowly began to improve his skills.

The National Rounds of the World Cadet Wrestling Championships in 2002 saw him win gold. Sadly he could qualify because of his deafness though officially he should not have been barred from the international event. Nonetheless he did not lose heart and in 2005 took part in the Deaflympics and won his first gold.

There was no looking back as medals followed and by 2017 he had won a lot of laurels for India. Sadly these good times were not to last long.

Despite getting the Arjuna Award, the government kept on ignoring him for major awards later on. The Deaflympics were not given due recognition by the government though they are of the same standards as the Paralympics. This ignorance of deaf athletes in general pushed those like Virender to the background.

Virender currently works as a clerk in the Haryana power corporation and is pretty much forgotten by the country. It's a sad state of affairs for someone who has always put his best foot forward for the country.

வயிற்று வலியால் துடித்த வாய் பேசமுடியாத பெண்… டாக்டர் கூறிய வார்த்தையால் அதிர்ந்த பெற்றோர்…

திருவாரூர் மாவட்டத்தில் வயிற்று வலியால் துடித்த மாற்றுத்திறனாளி பெண்ணை பரிசோதித்த மருத்துவர்கள் கர்ப்பமாக இருப்பதாக தெரிவித்ததால் அப்பெண்ணின் பெற்றோர்கள் அதிர்ச்சி அடைந்துள்ளனர்.

திருவாரூர் மாவட்டம் அப்பரசன்பேட்டை பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த ராஜகோபால் தம்பதிக்கு ரேகா (பெயர் மாற்றப்பட்டுள்ளது) (25) என்ற வாய் பேச முடியாத காது கேட்காத ஒரு மாற்றுத்திறனாளி மகள் உள்ளார். ரேகா தனது பள்ளிப் படிப்பை முடித்துவிட்டு வீட்டில் இருந்துள்ளார். இந்நிலையில் திடீரென அவருக்கு வயிற்று வலி ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது .

இந்நிலையில் வயிற்று வலி காரணமாக மருத்துவமனையில் சிகிச்சைக்காக அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார். இதையடுத்து அவரை பரிசோதித்த மருத்துவர்கள் கர்ப்பமாக இருப்பதாக தெரிவித்துள்ளனர். இதையடுத்து அதிர்ச்சி அடைந்த பெற்றோர் இதற்கு யார் காரணம் என்பது குறித்து ரேகாவிடம் கேட்டுள்ளனர்.

இந்நிலையில் கர்ப்பத்திற்கு யார் காரணம் என்பது குறித்து ரேகா சொல்ல முடியாத நிலையில் அவரது பெற்றோர்கள் மற்றும் உறவினர்கள் மிகுந்த குழப்பத்தில் உள்ளனர். இதையடுத்து அவரை வீட்டிற்கு அழைத்து வந்துள்ளனர். பல நாட்கள் கேட்ட போதும் கர்ப்பத்திற்கு யார் காரணம் என்பது குறித்த ரேகா பெற்றோர்களிடம் தெரிவிக்கவில்லை.

இதையடுத்து திடீரென அவருக்கு பிரசவ வலி ஏற்பட்டது இதையடுத்து மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்ட அவருக்கு அழகிய ஆண் குழந்தை ஒன்று பிறந்துள்ளது. இதையடுத்து ரேகா பெற்றோர்கள் மகளிர் காவல் நிலையத்தில் புகார் அளித்துள்ளனர். புகாரின்பேரில் வழக்கு பதிவு செய்த காவல்துறையினர் விசாரணை நடத்தி வருகின்றனர்.

ரயில் மோதியதில் காது கேளாத முதியவர் பலி

15.10.2019, பொள்ளாச்சி:பொள்ளாச்சி அருகே தண்டவாளத்தில் அத்துமீறி பிரவேசித்த காது கேளாத முதியவர், ரயில் மோதி பரிதாபமாக இறந்தார்.பொள்ளாச்சி நஞ்சேகவுண்டன்புதுாரை சேர்ந்தவர் சுப்பு செட்டியார் மகன் பழனிசாமி, 75, காது கேட்காதவர். இவர், இயற்கை உபாதையை கழிக்க, தன் வீட்டுக்கு பின்புறம் உள்ள பொள்ளாச்சி - பாலக்காடு ரயில் தண்டவாளத்தில் நேற்று முன்தினம் அதிகாலை சென்றார்.அப்போது, அவ்வழியே காலை, 5:50 மணியளவில் வந்த பாலக்காடு - திருச்செந்துார் பயணிகள் ரயில் பழனிசாமி மீது மோதியது. விபத்தில் பழனிசாமி பரிதாபமாக இறந்தார். ரயில்வே போலீசார் விசாரிக்கின்றனர்.

This hearing-impaired photographer still finds a good tune with birds

“What I find remarkable about birds is one can find them literally everywhere — immaterial of the surroundings or the weather / climate — they are always true to their character — they are always birds,” smiles Anand Vishwanadha.

A poet and nature photographer, for a year now he is the Chief Sustainability Officer of Chitrak Eco Ventures — a Wilderness Camp and Jungle-living destination in the Jawai region of Rajasthan, famous for its leopards. His recent screening of photographs at Alliance Francaise as part of the Indian Photo Festival, showcased his ability with the lens as well as a variety of winged creatures and animals.

The avid bird enthusiast shares, “Around 70 photos were screened in two screenings, one from the avian world, titled ‘Stray Birds’ and another dealing with our Wilderness Camp and the leopards (and other wildlife) of the Jawai region.” Incidentally Stray Birds is the name of his third book of English poetry (it has sold close to a thousand copies and is now out of print) and the bird photos have been taken over more than a decade while the leopard photos are more recent.

The screening which lasted for almost three hours saw photography screenings, presentations (on the Jawai region, rewilding and biodiversity conservation) and a poetry reading session. Anand identifies himself as deaf and his hearing condition (Binaural Progressive Sensori-neural Hearing Loss) is degenerative, which renders even hearing aids ineffective.

Photography comes with a lot of challenges and the screening saw a lot of images which were shot in remote/testing conditions. The 45-year-old nods and shares, “I have been fortunate enough to find / discover and photograph Golden Eagles near the snowline in the remote sanctuary in Uttarakhand... and that was a rather difficult experience. But there are many challenging occasions when it comes to photographing birds, because they are very skittish subjects and can move very fast! Photographing the leopards of Jawai is also not without challenge...they are so well camouflaged they manage to hide in plain sight!”

Danger is around the corner too, especially when wildlife and inaccessible locations come together. Anand laughs and recalls an expedition to Spiti (he was with a friend, doing a recce for a snow leopard tour) and his Bolero got stuck on the side of a mountain. He then had to stay there for three hours (as his friend and tour guide trekked to the nearest village to get reinforcements) in sub zero temperatures.

Nicknamed Birdman for his wide range of knowledge of birds and their habits, Anand doesn’t recall when and where his fascination for birds started. “I do know that right from the very day I have been a photographer, my genre has mostly been nature photography...I started with landscapes, moved on to roads (I have been an avid motorcycle tourer) and then I got myself a long lens, and a DSLR...and found my calling.” he says.

His top mantras while shooting birds are simple and precise. “Always try to understand what the bird is doing and try to document the same in your photo.” he shares. “Get as close as you can, reach (that you get with long lenses) is important, but there is nothing like proximity...with some practice (and mentoring) you can pick up all the essentials of field craft -- moving silently, keeping a low profile and getting closer to the bird when it is not watching.”

His current passion is Chitrak, the wilderness camp he started in Rajasthan. “I started Chitrak with the objective of giving back to nature and the wildernesses. We are just one year old and while our focus on sustainability, rewilding and bio-diversity conservation has already started showing results. Jawai region is like no other region and its leopards are like no other leopards! Also, there is much more to Jawai than just the leopards, we have Caracals, Ratels, Civet cats...and a host of other rare flora and fauna. And yes, for birding, it is almost like a mystery region...you never know what will happen, which bird you will find!” he signs off.

Army Officer's Hearing Impaired Daughter Diksha Sagar is India's Olympic Probable

New Delhi: An 18-year-old girl, with total hearing impairment has made her Indian Army officer father proud by being one of the probables for next year's Tokyo Olympics in Golf.

If she qualifies for the Tokyo Games, Diksha Dagar could be the first specially-abled sportsperson from India to compete in the Olympic Games.

The Colonel's daughter, who stands at the 56th position in Olympic rankings, is at present going through qualification rounds for the biggest international sporting event.

Earlier this year, Diksha, a left-handed golfer, became the youngest Indian woman to win the Ladies European Tour in South Africa. Ace golfer Aditi Ashok is the only other Indian female to have won the tournament.

"Diksha's ranking is good at this point of time. She has a number of competitions lined up before the Tokyo Olympics. Given her performances, she will improve her rankings. It is almost certain she will qualify for the Tokyo Olympics," her father Colonel Narinder Dagar told IANS.

Diksha -- a Class 12 Commerce student of DPS (Dhaula Kuan) in New Delhi -- won her first major tournament at the Ladies Amateur Open Championship in Singapore in 2018.

In 2005 when Diksha was around five years old, she underwent a surgery for a cochlear implant in her left ear that gave her the boon of partial hearing.

"Till the age of five, she was totally unable to speak either because she could not hear. It was a great joy for her when she was able to hear partially following the cochlear implant. Nevertheless, it is always a great challenge for a sportsperson to perform and compete without one of the five senses. She has never let her disability come in the way of her ambitions. She is good in studies too despite her limitations and professional commitments," added Colonel Dagar.

Belonging to an Army background, Diksha was exposed to a lot of outdoor activities including sports since her childhood. She began playing golf at the age of around six years in the cantonments of Dimapur (Nagaland) and Mhow (Madhya Pradesh) where her father was posted. Her father was her first coach and provided her with the initial knowledge of the game.

In the initial years, Diksha took to a number of physical activities including swimming, cycling, skating and riding but zeroed down on golf at the age of 11 when her father moved to national capital following a transfer.

"Diksha went on to win almost every major under-15 golf tournament in India thereafter," added Colonel Dagar.

In 2015, she won the Eastern India Ladies & Junior Girls, Faldo Series India. The very next year, she won the Chandigarh Ladies & Junior Girls Championship, Faldo Series India Championship, Western India Ladies & Girls Championship and the Eastern India Ladies & Junior Girls.

In 2017, she won the Telangana Ladies & Junior Girls Championship, the Northern India Ladies & Girls championship and the Western India Ladies & Girls Championship. Diksha also won her first professional event at the Hero Women's Pro Golf Tour in 2017.

2nd Deaf World Tennis Championships: Prashant Enters Quarter-Finals

15.10.2019.  Prashant Hamsabhavi, a hearing impaired tennis player, from Mysore Tennis Club, Mysuru, representing India in the 2nd Deaf World Tennis Championships being held at Antalya, Turkey, has on Sunday entered the Men’s Doubles quarter-finals teaming up with India’s Prithvi Shekar.

In Men’s Singles event, Prashant bowed out in the first round but, however, is still in fray for the consolation prize.

Deaf driving poses no risk, proves hyderabad city youth

Hyderabad: September 26 is celebrated as Day of the Deaf every year. This day is very special for Manikanta from Moti Nagar, Hyderabad. Annapragada Manikanta is a hearing-disabled person and the first Indian to receive driving licence from the Telangana government in 2017. Interestingly, Manikanta being the professional in graphic designing is the one who designed logo for the vehicles driven by the hearing-impaired for the Telangana government.

Speaking about the driving experience in Hyderabad, Manikanta said, "Driving is easy, if we have confident in ourselves and I drive comfortably on Hyderabad roads using side mirrors. I have never been an undisciplined driver and always follow traffic rules. Till date, I have not faced any problems and feeling great after driving several kilometers alone so far, I become comfortable in driving, my family and people around are very cooperative and supportive and they always cautions me to drive safe."

He, however, expresses disappointment that when several deaf people approach for driving licence, officials are sending back them claiming that they have no knowledge about the government order to provide licences in such cases. He urged deaf people to carry a copy of GO while giving the driving test, so the officials will not object to them. He says it is due to support from his parents, VaraLakshmi and Sivarama Prasad, that he is able to drive on roads. "Though I faced several challenges, I made myself strong and confidently started moving ahead in life as it was my dream to ride and be successful like all others. It's been two years and have been driving safely every day."

Speaking about designing the logo for the hearing impaired people vehicles, Manikanta informs, "I gave eight designs for the TS government, of which one was picked up which will be displayed both on the front and the rear sides of vehicle. The logo signifies that the 'Driver is deaf, please pay attention.' It is a way to spread awareness and avoid accidents and request other people to cooperate." "I began drawing and turned professional in 2007 after completing a course in fine arts with a senior artist and I completed animation courses at Ni-MSME and began working in 2010. At present, I am working as a background animator for a company. So, designing a logo was an easy task for me and also it was a good opportunity to help so many others like me. It was a priceless happiness to fulfil dreams of hearing impaired being able to drive on roads," he added.

2 arrested for raping deaf and mute woman in Mumbai

20-year-old man and his friend have been arrested for allegedly raping a deaf and mute woman in Mumbai, police said on Tuesday.

According to a police official, the accused, who were arrested on Monday, have been identified as Lakhan Kaale and his friend Sandip Kurhade (22), both residents of adjoining Thane.

The victim (25) worked as a maid in a residential society in upscale suburb of Bandra (East), he said.

On Sunday afternoon, she suddenly disappeared after she went out of the housing society, the official said.

When she did not return, her employer informed her parents who reside in Virar, a distant suburb of Mumbai, and they lodged a missing person complaint with the Kherwadi police station, he said.

However, the woman's mobile phone was active and it showed her location in Thane, the official said, adding on Monday, she was found at the Dadar railway station along with Kurhade.

The woman told the police in writing about her ordeal after which Kurhade was taken in custody, he said.
During interrogation, it came to light that the woman was raped in a room in Thane, the official said, adding the police later picked up Kaale, too, from the adjoining city.

Kurhade revealed he met the victim via a common friend and on Sunday he took her to his home in Thane to introduce her to his parents as he wanted to marry her, he said.

But when Kurhade's parents denied him permission to marry the woman, he asked his colleague Kaale to drop her to her workplace in Bandra, the official said.

However, Kaale took the woman to a room in Thane and allegedly raped her, he said.

When Kurhade came to know about the crime, he reached the spot and took the victim with him to drop her at her workplace in Bandra, but was arrested when they reached Dadar, the official said.

An FIR under IPC sections 366 (kidnapping or inducing woman to compel her marriage), 376 (rape) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) was registered against both the accused, he said.

On Tuesday, they were produced before a court which sent them in police custody till October 15, the official added.
