Geeta, an Indian origin girl deaf and mute girls had spent years in Pakistan and returned to India in 2015. She was found alone on board the Samjhauta Express in Lahore, when she was just 7-8 years old. Geeta who currently resides at a special care in Indore is getting help from the Ministry of External Affairs to find a suitable match. The MEA has asked the Indore district authorities to show her the 25 marriage proposals the MEA shortlisted for her.There was a Facebook advertisement by a social activist put out in the month of April which got 50 responses from men for the proposal. The MEA has selected 25 of them with scrutiny as informed by panchayat chief executive officer Neha Meena said. "The district administration has been asked to arrange a meeting for Geeta with the men so that she can make a choice," she added. Geeta will be shown the pictures and biodata of all the 25 men.
Geeta is currently staying in a facility run by Muk-Badhir Sangathan, an NGO, in Indore. She is taken special care of by the Madhya Pradesh government's social justice department. Geeta, when returned to the country, was hopeful that she would find her parents but the government has not been successful yet. In fact, 10 couples claimed that Geeta is their missing daughter, however, none of them were able to prove the claim. While in Pakistan, Geeta was taken care of by Pakistan's charitable foundation Edhi Foundation.
