Pingalwara opens school for deaf children in Hoshiarpur

The All India Pingalwara Charitable Society (AIPS) here opened a new elementary school for deaf children at Kakkon village in Hoshiarpur on Friday. The school was inaugurated by the society’s president, Dr Inderjit Kaur.

The society has already been running five schools for deaf children in three border districts of Punjab — Amritsar Ferozepur and Tarn Taran — while some schools are being run by other welfare societies in various districts of Punjab. More than 200 students are getting free education from the society’s schools in three districts.

Dr Inderjit Kaur said the building for the newly inaugurated school has been provided by Bhai Kanaihya Society of Tanda and Asha Kiran Welfare Society in Hoshiarpur.

She highlighted the problems of deaf children andurged their parents to send their children to schools on a regularly. She also said seven districts of Punjab are still without such schools,but the society aims to fill this gap in future.

Ravinder Singh Sodhi from the Pingalwara society of Ontario spoke about the contribution of well-wishers of Pingalwara from Canada inthe field of education.He assured that this contribution will continue in future.

Malkiat Singh Maheru, president of Asha Kiran Welfare Society and its members;S Ujjal Singh, president Bhai Kanihya Society, Tanda and their members;S Mohinder Pal Singh Bawejafrom Hoshiarpur ; Mrs Sudesh from Garhshankar and others were present on the occasion.

Notably, the AIPS gave hearing power to two deaf students of a school run by the society Sukhmanpreet Kaur ,8, and Manbir Kaur ,5, of Amritsar, through cochlear implant surgery on April 29.
