இந்த அமைப்பின் சார்பில் சென்னை வேப்பேரியில் நேற்று நடந்த நவீன சுயம்வரம் நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு தமிழகம் முழுவதும் இருந்து ஏராளமான திருமண வயதைத் தொட்ட, திருமண வயதைத் தாண்டிய ஆண்களும், பெண்களும் தங்களது பெற்றோர் மற்றும் உறவினர்களுடன் வந்திருந்தனர். இவர்கள் அனைவரும் காது கேளாத, வாய் பேச முடியாத, சரியாக நடக்க முடியாத பகுதி ஊனமுற்ற மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள்.

இவர்களைப் பற்றியும், இவர்களது குடும்பம் மற்றும் வருமானம், எதிர்பார்ப்பு உள்ளிட்டவற்றை அவர்களது பாணியிலேயே விளக்கி மணமகன் மற்றும் மணமகளை அறிமுகம் செய்து வைத்தனர் சைகை நிபுணர்கள் விஜயலட்சுமியும், வினோத்தும்.

மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகளுக்கான விளையாட்டு மற்றும் தனித்திறன் போட்டிகளில் முத்திரை பதித்து பிரதமர் கையால் தேசிய அளவில் பரிசு மற்றும் பாராட்டுக் கேடயம் பெற்ற சென்னை போரூரைச் சேர்ந்த இளம்பெண் நிவேதிதாவின் பெற்றோர் இளையபாரதி- வனிதா கூறும்போது, ‘‘எங்கள் மகளுக்கு உள்ள இந்த குறைபாடுகளை நாங்கள் ஒரு குறையாக நினைத்தது இல்லை. பிரதமர் கையால் விருது வாங்கி அவர்தான் எங்களுக்கு பெருமை சேர்த்திருக்கார். எங்களைப் போன்ற பெற்றோரின் மனக்குறையை ஓம் டிவைன் அமைப்பு தீர்த்து வைத்துள்ளது’’ என்றனர்.

சரளமாக பேச மட்டும் முடியாது என்ற குறைபாடு உடைய டிசிஎஸ் நிறுவனத்தில் கைநிறைய சம்பாதிக்கும் இளம்பெண் ரோஸி, எந்தக் குறையும் கிடையாது, ஆனால் மணந்தால் வாய் பேசாத, காது கேளாத ஒரு மாற்றுத்திறனாளி பெண்ணைத்தான் மணப்பேன் என வைராக்கியமாக இருந்து வரும் வேலூர் இளைஞர் கார்த்திக் போன்றவர்கள் இந்த சுயம்வரத்தின் சிறப்பு விருந்தினர்கள்.

இந்த நவீன சுயம்வரம் குறித்து ‘தி இந்து’விடம் பேசிய சென்னை தி.நகர் ஓம் டிவைன் கான்சியஸ்னெஸ் அமைப்பின் நிர்வாகி ஆர்.மோகன கிருஷ்ணசுவாமி, ‘‘வாய் பேசாத, காது கேளாத இவர்களை இந்த சமூகம் புறக்கணித்துவிடக் கூடாது என்பதற்காக எங்கள் அமைப்பு போராடி வருகிறது. கும்பகோணத் தில் ஒரு குடும்பத்தில் கண்ட ஒரு நிகழ்வுதான் என்னை மனதளவில் பாதித்தது. அதன்பிறகு கடந்த 4 ஆண்டுகளாக இவர்களுக்கும் சொந்த செலவில் சுயம்வரம் நடத்தி இலவச திருமணமும் செய்து வைத்து வருகிறோம்.

இங்கு ஜாதி, சமயம், அந்தஸ்து ஆகியவை தடைக் கற்கள் கிடையாது. இதுவரை நூற்றுக்கணக்கான மாற்றுத்திறனாளி ஜோடிகள் எங்கள் அமைப்பின் மூலம் தம்பதிகளாகி உள்ளனர். இன்னும் உதவி கிடைக்காத பலருக்கு நல்ல மேடையாக இருக்க விரும்புகிறோம். தவிர வாரம்தோறும் அன்னதானமும் அளித்து வருகிறோம்” என்றார்.

Among them was a 2015 National Award recipient, an Army soldier, IT employees and even a man without disabilities looking for a bride.

"My 28-year-old daughter seeks the hand of a graduate. Religion is no bar," announced Vanitha Pushpam on stage, speaking for her daughter Nivetha who received the National Award for best employee with multiple disabilities from Union finance minister Arun Jaitley last December. The jewellery-designer who has cerebral palsy (80%) and total hearing loss also works as a trainer at the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities in Muttukadu.

Next on stage was 26-year-old Balaraman, whose lower portion is paralysed. "I am capable of looking after a woman. Is there a bride out there for me?" Balaraman, who has studied till Class 12 and lives in Aminjikarai, said. He works for a leather manufacturing unit and earns 15,000 per month.

Among those looking on eagerly was a 32-year-old man without disabilities. S Karthik from Vellore who separated from his wife a year ago was in search of a bride. Karthik said, "After my wife left me, I have committed to look after a disabled woman. I have issues of my own and I do not see any handicap in the women here."

Om Divine Consciousness, an NGO, conducted the swayamvaram at a marriage hall in Vepery for the fourth successive year. It has so far helped make six matches.

Timely action by SSB jawans prevents rape

11.06.2016, NEW DELHI: In a Good Samaritan act, jawans of the Sashastra Seema Bal posted on the Nepal border in Sitamarhi, Bihar, saved a mentally challenged deaf and dumb minor girl from the clutches of a criminal who had abducted her with an intention to rape. They also caught the accused and handed him over to the police.

On June 8, three SSB 20th Batallion personnel - Head Constable Birendra Meena, Constable Vinay Mandal and Driver Yeshpal Singh were driving towards the company headquarters in Sitamarhi district in Bihar, near the Nepal border. When they reached Kuri Madan village in the district, a frightened villager stopped their vehicle and sought help.

"He informed our jawans that a local criminal had abducted a 15 year old girl - who is mentally challenged and deaf and dumb, and had taken her to the sugarcane fields," said Deepak Kumar, IG Operations, SSB.

At once, SSB Jawans rushed towards the sugarcane fields and rescued the minor girl from the clutches of the suspect, identified later as Bikau Singh Saini. They officials called the local police and handed him over. It turned out that Saini was a history sheeter with more criminal cases against him.

"The timely action of our men prevented rape and strengthened a sense of security among the villagers," said Kumar.

He added that jawans exerted a sense of humanity, irrespective of what duty they were officially assigned. "If all the forces, police start doing that, the crimes would come down," Kumar added.

The SSB, which guards 2450 kms border with Nepal and Bhutan, is thinking of rewarding the jawns for their act.

SSB's primary role is to guard and manage the international border. It is also the lead intelligence unit for Nepal and Bhutan borders and the coordination agency for national security activities.

Besides this, SSB undertakes construction of schools, buildings, toilets, roads under border area developmental plan. It also gives regular guidance and training to unemployed youth in general studies and physical training. In border villages, SSB teaches the border population the best agricultural practices, horticulture, pisiculture etc.

Two Gujarat boys make it to Indian deaf volleyball team

11.06.2016, AHMEDABAD: Two deaf and speech-impaired boys - Hitesh Chaudhary of Charada village in Gandhinagar and Hardik Patel of Valsad's Chharwada village - have made the cut for the Indian volleyball team that will take part in the Third World Deaf Volleyball Championship in Washington. The tournament will be played on July 5-16 at the Gallaudet University under the aegis of International Committee of Sports for the Deaf.

The two men had to compete with 28 other spikers from across the country at a selection trial to make the nine-member squad. Hitesh, 27, will be a bit more excited as he will also lead the side picked by the All India Sports Council of the Deaf (AISCD) recently.

The two will be in Bangalore in June for the preparatory camp on the Sports Authority of India (SAI) campus and will embark on their journey for to the US on July 2.

Delighted over his maiden sojourn abroad, Hitesh told TOI through his elder brother Bharat using sign language, that he was selected for the national team earlier too for a tournament in Bulgaria but the trip didn't happen. He is happy to be second-time lucky. "All I am thinking about right now is to do well for my team and make my village and the nation proud. I will be the first from my village to go abroad. The credit for my success goes to my mentor Babubhai Chaudhary, who brought me to the game in 2003-04," the spiker, who has played in Khel Mahakumbh, said.

Interestingly, it was Hitesh who introduced Valsad-boy Hardik to the game as the two went to the same school - Shree Haribhai R Desai Badhir Ucchatar Madhyamik Vidyala, in Vadodara between 2008 to 2011.

Hardik had started playing the game back in 2005 and has so far played in many nationals. He too played Khel Mahakumbh event in the state and impressed many. "My parents have sacrificed a lot for my passion. Today, I am proud to have justified their support as I will don the Indian colours soon," Hardik said in a text message.

திருப்பூர் ஆட்சியர் அலுவலகத்தில் உள்ள மாவட்ட வேலைவாய்ப்பு அலுவலகத்தில், தனியார் துறை வேலைவாய்ப்பு முகாம் வெள்ளிக்கிழமை நடைபெற்றது.

இதில், எழுதப் படிக்கத் தெரிந்தவர்கள் முதல் முதுநிலைப் பட்டதாரிகள், ஐடிஐ, டிப்ளமோ படித்தவர்கள் மற்றும் மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் உள்ளிட்டோர் பங்கேற்கலாம் என மாவட்ட நிர்வாகம் சார்பில் கேட்டுக் கொள்ளப்பட்டிருந்தது. அதன்படி, ஏராளமான பெண்கள் மற்றும் இளைஞர்கள் முகாமில் பங்கேற்றனர்.
