Centre explores collaboration between AIISH and AIIMS for speech and hearing disorders

Mysuru: The Union minister of state for health and family welfare, Anupriya Patel, on Monday announced that the Union govt is exploring collaboration between the AIISH and AIIMS for speech and hearing disorders. She also announced plans to set up additional AIISH-like institutes in the country.

Speaking at the diamond jubilee celebrations of AIISH, she stated that AIISH is the global centre for compassionate care. She assured continued support from the Union govt.

Chief minister Siddaramaiah stated that detecting speech and hearing problems in children even while they are in the womb is indeed a remarkable achievement. He added that it is only through such premier institutions that technologies to identify communication disorders during the foetal stage have become possible. To further expand the institute's clinical and rehabilitation work, the govt has granted 10 acres of land free of cost at Varuna on the outskirts of the city.

Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot said that sign language is an effective medium of communication for people with speech and hearing impairments. He stressed the need for its development at the national and international levels.

"In this era of technological progress, we are faced with new challenges and opportunities. There are new possibilities in fields like artificial intelligence, digital therapy, and tele-audiology. More efforts are required in this direction," the Governor said.
