BATHINDA: Braving many hostilities, speech and hearing impaired Bathinda youth, suffering from profound deafness, has gone beyond his achievements in academic sphere.
Eighteen-year-old Yashveer Goyal did not allow his disabilities to beat his undying passion for doing the different things. He is into collecting commemorative postal stamps, old coins and currency notes of India and various other countries.
Winner of Achievement Award in Global IT Challenge for Youth With Disability-2017, held last month at Hanoi (Vietnam) and gold medal in National IT Challenge for Youth With Disabilities, 2017, Yashveer did not sit idle while cursing his hearing impairment and picked up the hobby of collecting philately stamps, coins and currency notes apart from indulging in amateur photography, which earned him accolades.
Yashveer in the last 5 years has managed to collect many coins, stamps, and currency notes with the helping hand provided by his father Chander Parkash. Yashveer took studies in school for normal boys and is presently pursuing a graduation course from Indira Gandhi National Open University.
So far he has collected almost all the currency notes issued by establishment of independent India. He has also collected currency notes of other countries also and a sizeable section of them are rare ones. Similar is the case with the commemorative stamps of India and other nations. "He has collected very old currency notes, commemorative stamps of India and other nations.
The coins belong to ancient, medieval and modern period including coins of Ram Durbar, Akbar period, Tipu Sultan period, Guru Nanak, Maharaja Ranjit Singh period, Nawab of Malerkotla period, Nawab of Hyderabad period, British India silver, bronze and nickel coins issued by East India Company. He also collected hundreds of coins of different countries," said his father Chander Parkash.
Yashveer has collected a stamp made of silver namely silver stamps Janneke Brinkman-Salentijn issued by Netherland, Maharaja Aggarsain stamp issued by Maldives country, legendary singer MS subbulakshmi issued by United Nations and Dancing Lord Shiva (NATRAJ) issued by United Nations.
Apart from it, he has collected stamp issued by Canada government on tercentenary celebration of creation of Khalsa, stamp issued by United States on Diwali and issued by Uganda government on the occasion of centenary celebration of settlement of Sikhs in that country.
Not stopping here, Yashveer has been going places to capture history into his camera. He has been doing photography of heritage landmarks of country, says Chander.
