In a video which has since gone viral on X, the male IndiGo employee is seen using sign language to interact with a passenger.
IndiGo Airlines is being hailed for promoting inclusivity in the workplace after a recent video showed one of its ground staff members with “speech and hearing impairment” assisting a passenger at a check-in counter.
In the now-viral clip, an IndiGo passenger can be seen talking to the male staff member before checking in. The employee is seen using sign language to interact with the passenger with patience and understanding. Sharing the video, an X handle @WokePandemic wrote, “Truly heart touching initiative by @IndiGo6E. Providing job to speech and hearing impaired person at check-in counter. This is such a beautiful step toward inclusion. And he helping passengers with such grace is simply inspiring.”
Responding to the video, IndiGo wrote, “We are truly touched by your message. Our team exemplifies the power of empathy and inclusion. Thank you for recognising their efforts and supporting our commitment to empowering all abilities.”
The video quickly drew attention, evoking an array of reactions. Numerous users hailed the airline for promoting inclusivity. “Thank you for sharing this, this is truly inclusive and inspiring beyond words,” a user wrote. “Deaf Indigo staff, who uses Indian Sign Language, are very hard-working and determined. I wish that Indian Sign Language would be recognzied by Govt of India as per 8th schedule to the constitution!” another user commented.
“I don’t remember the airport but I once met this guy. I was running late and boarding was about to start. This guy really called me forward with hand sign, helped me out with luggage and fortunately I reached my gate being the last passanger. This guy is awesome,” a third user shared.
Recently, IndiGo came under scrutiny after a passenger claimed that her suitcase was cut open and items worth Rs 40,000 were stolen from it. However, the airline dismissed the allegations. Responding to the viral LinkedIn post, IndiGo said it had conducted a “thorough investigation, including a detailed review of CCTV footage,” and “found no indication of pilferage or any irregular handling”.
