Industrialist Anand Mahindra, who often shares content he receives on his #WhatsAppWonderbox, recently tweeted an article that left many ROFL-ing. However, it was the response of his wife that led him to write out a hilarious post on the “perils of having a smart wife”.

“Laughed non-stop for 5 mins on reading this. Asked my wife if I could have fooled her like this. She didn’t waste even a few seconds in replying: She said ‘Really? Would you have lasted 5 mins without speaking into your cellphone?’ Aah, the perils of having a smart wife,” tweeted Mahindra while sharing an article about a man, who had been pretending to be speech and hearing-impaired for 62 long years to “avoid listening to his wife”.

DeafKidz Goal! is a 3 year life skills programme being delivered to children in Nagpur, India jointly by DeafKidz International and Slum Soccer. An app to bridge the gulf of silence

It offers a form of sign language that seeks to bring the rest of the world closer to the hearing-impaired

The hearing-impaired often stare down at a gulf of silence that separates them and the rest of the world. Sometimes, this silence can show up during important everyday social transactions, involving educators, interpreters and even the families of the hearing-impaired. When this happens, it can be extremely disturbing.

Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro has launched a mobile app — DEF-ISL — that makes learning sign language easy not only for people with hearing disabilities, but also for the hearing-capable, and thereby bridges that gulf.

The app was recently launched at L&T’s campus in Manapakkam as part of a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, in association with the Deaf Enabled Foundation (DEF), a pan-India voluntary organisation working for the empowerment of the hearing-impaired.

Ramya Miryala, Chief Operating Officer of DEF, says the app is a step towards an inclusive society.

“People with hearing impairment lose out on opportunities in education, employment and various other fields because of the communication gap. People often assume that sign language is difficult to learn, so they tend to ignore people with hearing disabilities, thereby denying them an opportunity to express themselves. This app makes learning sign language easy for not just the hearing-impaired community but their families, educators and interpreters,” she says.

The mobile app, which combines visuals, actions and words, is available for download on both iOs and Android platforms. The app has more than 10,000 downloads so far, Ramya adds and hopes that more people will make an effort to learn sign language.

Rajasekara Pandy, senior manager of L&T’s CSR wing, says the company has been supporting DEF’s efforts to improve the lives of the hearing-impaired, for the past seven years.

“The app is a work in progress. For now, it is packed with more than 5,000 easy-to-understand signs denoting the alphabet, numbers, the days of the week, animals and colours. The app has in-built videos, gestures and illustrations for easy learning and can be used both by adults and children. Our app team is working on building on the vocabulary packed into the app,” he adds.

This year, L&T is planning to approach school across Chennai in an effort to popularise the app.

“We want to teach the younger generation to learn to communicate with the hearing-impaired and also treat people with disabilities with more compassion,” he adds.

They may not have been able to hear the thunderous applause they received at Vasco in Goa recently, after winning the personality pageant, but Meet Raisinghani and Tejal Khatri, the winner and second runner-up of Mister and Miss Deaf International 2019, respectively, surely know that the story of their dreams will be heard, as they will be flying to Russia to be part of the international round of the competition later this year.

Meet and Tejal, former students of the School for the Deaf-Mutes Society on Ashram Road, always wanted to get into modelling or give performances in other spheres, such as dance and other skills. Parvati Raisinghani, Meet’s mother, said that they initially tried to discourage Meet but eventually realized that this was his calling. “Going abroad and representing the country on such a stage is a confidence booster for Tejal, who is working hard to improve her performances. Such successes break the notion that beauty pageants are only for the able-bodied,” said Meena Khatri, Tejal’s mother.

A restaurant in China employs only deaf waiters

BEIJING: A restaurant in China’s capital is offering opportunities to people that are hard-of-hearing by employing a team of deaf waiters who communicate with customers aided by guide cards.

With a look of concentration and a timid smile on his face, Cao Xueting goes about serving food to diners in a quiet but determined manner and when asked about the menu, he quickly directs customers to some coloured cards, reports Efe news.

“It was a friend who showed me this place. Here, there are always a lot of people and it is a very good business,” 21-year-old Cao said using sign language.

Located in the artistic 798 district in northeastern Beijing, “Forgive Barbecue” is one of the few restaurants in China with deaf waiters who through these cards and simple facial expressions can work with ease.

Cao is part of a four-member team that carries out the work typical of any restaurant: to attend, serve, charge for the service and clean up, all done through sign and body language.

The establishment opened its doors two summers ago, when its promoter Lu Lu decided to switch jobs from caring for children with special needs to launch a project that would include people with disabilities.

“In China, many children with disabilities do not find good jobs once they get older,” Lul Lu told Efe news.

“I decided to open the restaurant not to turn it into a sales phenomenon, but to help them build their psychology and give them a sense of belonging,” she continued.

Before starting work, all the waiters – whose ages range from 20 to 30 – underwent several months of training where, in addition to learning day-to-day tasks, they also gained self-confidence.

From the ceiling hang posters with basic instructions on how to order food, ask for the bill and approach waiters, accompanied by drawings with the most basic gestures of sign language.

In the background, a wall is filled with hundreds of pink post-it notes containing suggestions on how to express gratitude for the food to how to convey messages of support, designed for the customers to initiate exchanges with the hard of hearing staff.

Behind the counter, dressed in black and with a panoramic view of the premises is 26-year-old Xing Fangyuan who is in charge of sorting out any difficulties should they arise between patrons and waiters.

“At first I didn’t really know how to work with them, but I’ve been learning little by little,” said Xing who learnt sign language before starting work as the restaurant supervisor.

As for the patrons, their faces range from initial perplexity to a growing sense of curiosity that eventually leads many, like Yang Feifei, to repeat the experience a second time.

“The dishes are very delicious and the service is excellent,” said Yang, 19, who now admits to understanding the reality of people with disabilities better.

“I do not notice any difference between this and other restaurants,” Yang adds.

Lu plans to open another half-dozen similar restaurants in Beijing, of which at least one will include a small “experimental room” where diners can feel the same as a deaf person. IANS

Echoes: A chain of cafes run by deaf and mute

Managed seamlessly by a team of deaf and mute staff, Echoes, a chain of cafés, is challenging stereotypes and changing dining experiences for people.

Sign language boards at the entrance, flashcards with requests of frequently ordered dishes, customer friendly mechanisms to deal with the deaf and mute staff, Echoes is making the muted voices audible.

Situated in three Indian cities and having a total of four branches, Echoes is a chain of cafés that serves pocket-friendly, delicious food while reaffirming the place of the disabled in society.

A brainchild of six friends – Sahib Sarna, Shivansh Kanwar, Gaurav Kanwar, Sahil Gulati, Prateek Babbar and Kshitij Behl, the café was first opened in 2015 in a neighbourhood in south Delhi. A concept well received, it went onto open another part of Delhi as well in cities Bangalore and Kolkata.

The staff here cannot speak or listen and communicates using graphic boards or the sign language. Yet, the team seamlessly communicates with their guests, serves them and sends them back smiling.

Here is how they do it!

Communicating better
To bridge the communication gap between customers and servers, the team at Echoes has come up with creative yet functional ways.

For calling out the staff, each table is provided with a bell that is connected to bulbs at the staff counter. As one rings the bell, the bulb for the particular table switches on and the servers are informed.

A set of placards on every table with frequent requests like- water please, call the manager, bill, thank you- add to this comfortable mechanism.

For placing the order, the customers are given note pads on which they can write down the codes of the various dishes on the menu.

Visiting Echoes is just like going to any other restaurant. What makes it special though is how the café is spreading the spirit of care.

Caring for one and all

Initially having trouble even coordinating amongst themselves, Echoes staff now lives together.

The founders initially took the help of Noida Deaf Society, a school for the hearing impaired, to find the staff. “They all were already well trained at the school. We just had to assist them a little to help them get the pulse of the place. A little training did wonders with them,” adds Amchai.

Positive results

Working with Echoes has not only boosted the confidence but also instilled a sense of independence among the servers. Saif Ali, one of the head trainers at Echoes, got to know about the opportunity from a friend. With a proud smile, he shares using sign language, “It feels good to be a leader. I have worked at all the branches and trained many new workers in these four years. I have grown a lot in this period.” {Interpreted by Amchai}.

Not just professionally, working at Echoes has allowed the staff to aspire for better opportunities in their personal lives too. “I want to travel the world. The idea of serving in different countries abroad fascinates me” shares Ali.

It is no surprise then why the concept of echoes is being appreciated by many. The café’s online presence has increased significantly in the past two years. The concept is new for people and is able to evoke an emotional value amongst people.“Visiting Echoes helps us in contributing our little share to the community,” says Sonali Arora, a student of Delhi University.

“We are overwhelmed by the love of our customers. Many a time people leave warm messages and wishes for us in chits, cards and even tissues. Some even place the placard reading ‘thank you’ on their tables before leaving,” say Ali and Amchai.“Not only is the concept great, but the food is also delicious. I love their non-vegetarian dishes,” adds Aameen, a budding poet who is also from University of Delhi.

An amalgam of social change and indulging dining experiences, Echoes is indeed spreading smiles and progress.

Charitable body adopts deaf, dumb children

Vizianagaram: The golden heritage of Vizianagaram Charitable Foundation has extended its support for physically challenged students. On Tuesday the representatives of the foundation have adopted 17 students of deaf and dumb in the town and donated Rs.1,02,000 towards their annual school fee. 

The foundation has been in the charity activities for the past few years. K Surya Lakshmi, Radhika, Lalithakumari, P Bucchi Babu and others have participated in the programme.

Cricket lovers: Persons with hearing impairment and children of brick kiln workers watch IPL

HYDERABAD: Sunrisers Hyderabad might have lost the Sunday’s match to Delhi Capitals, but it won the hearts of 30 hearing-impaired persons and 50 children of migrant labourers from Odisha, presently working in Hyderabad’s brick kilns.

Speaking to Express, Ch Sainithin, one of the hearing impaired persons who is now pursuing B Tech, gestured how for the first time he enjoyed watching a cricket match live and was a feast for his eyes. He added that the experience of watching David Warner score a half century was amazing and that SRH is still his favourite team, even if they lost.

Arjuna Somani, a Class 8 student, whose parents work at a brick kiln in Ranga Reddy’s Raviryal village, said, “I had never been to Hyderabad before. We have not seen much of the world beyond brick kilns. It was a wonderful experience.” The children of migrant labourers who were taken to the match were in the age group of 10-14 years and are students of government school at Raviryal village.

The eclectic group was taken to the match with efforts of two separate NGOs they were associated with, along with help from the Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat.

Suresh Gutta, member one of the NGOs, who works with the migrant labourers said, “The children were treated like special guests at the match. Every child now has a different experience to share from the match.”


“This was just a small opportunity to give them a glimpse of the world outside and this experience will definitely inspire them to dream big,” said commissioner Bhagwat.

`மழலை மொழி', அனைவரும் வியந்து ரசிக்கும் புரியாத புதிர். செவித்திறன் குறைபாடு இருந்தால் பேசும் திறனிலும் குறைபாடு இருக்கும் என்பது, பலரின் தவறான கண்ணோட்டம். ஆனால், உண்மையில் அப்படி இருப்பதில்லை. காது கேட்காமலும் வாய் பேசாமலும் திணறிய பல குழந்தைகளை முன்னேற்றப் பாதைக்கு அழைத்துச் சென்று சாதனை புரிந்திருக்கிறது இந்தப் பள்ளி. அவர்களோடு சிறு பயணம்...

``மூன்று வயதுக்குள் இந்தக் குறைபாட்டைக் கண்டுபிடிக்காவிட்டால், அதைச் சரிசெய்வது மிகவும் கடினம். இவர்களாலும் மற்ற குழந்தைகளைப்போல் இயல்பாகப் பேசி வாழ முடியும். என் மகளுக்குத் தமிழ் தெரியாது. அவள் படித்தது ஆங்கிலவழிக் கல்வி. மற்ற குழந்தைகளைவிட மோசமான செவித்திறன் இழப்பால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த என் மகள், இரட்டை எம்.எஸ் பட்டம் பெற்று, ஆப்பிள் நிறுவனம் வரை சென்று வேலைபார்த்துள்ளார். மற்ற குழந்தையைப்போலவே இவர்களையும் பார்த்துக்கொண்டால் போதும்" என்று கூறி நெகிழ்ந்தார் கிருஷ்ணமாச்சாரி.

இந்தப் பள்ளியின் இயக்குநர் சரஸ்வதி நாராயணசுவாமியிடம் பேசியபோது...

``ஆரம்பத்துல மூணு வயசுக்குட்பட்ட குழந்தைகளைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கிறது கஷ்டமா இருந்தது. அப்போ, நாங்க சில ENT மருத்துவர்களை அணுகினோம். `காது கேட்காத குழந்தைகளைப் பேசவைக்க முடியாதும்மா. இதெல்லாம் சாத்தியமில்லை'னு அவர்களே சொல்லிட்டாங்க. `நாங்க பார்த்துக்கிறோம். நீங்க அனுப்பிவைங்க'ன்னு கட்டாயப்படுத்தி ஆரம்பிச்சதுதான் இந்த முயற்சி.

இங்கு வந்து சேரும் குழந்தைகளோடு சேர்த்து அவர்களின் பெற்றோர் அல்லது பொறுப்பாளர் யாராவது ஒருவருக்கும் பயிற்சி கொடுக்கிறோம். ஏன்னா, இது சாதாரண கல்விமுறையைச் சொல்லிக்கொடுக்கிற பள்ளி கிடையாது. நாங்க சொல்லிக்கொடுக்கிற மொழிகளை, வாரத்துல ஏழு நாளும் பேசிப் பேசி அந்தக் குழந்தைக்கு பயிற்சி கொடுக்கிற பொறுப்பு பெற்றோர்களுக்குத்தான் அதிகம் இருக்கு" என்றார்.

``இந்தக் குறைபாட்டை எப்படிக் கண்டுபிடிப்பது? இந்தப் பயிற்சிகளைத் தொடங்க சரியான வயது எது?"

``பேர் சொல்லிக் கூப்பிடும்போது குழந்தை திரும்பவில்லை என்றாலோ, குக்கர் விசில் போன்ற திடீர் சத்தத்துக்கு எந்தவித எதிர்செயல் இல்லை என்றாலோ, உடனே அந்தக் குழந்தையை மருத்துவமனைக்குக் கூட்டிட்டுப்போய் பரிசோதிக்கணும். இந்தக் காலத்துப் பெற்றோர்கள் அவங்க குழந்தைக்குக் குறைபாடு இருக்குனு ஒப்புக்கவே மாட்டேங்குறாங்க. `எல்லாம் கொஞ்சம் நாள்ல சரியாகிடும்'னு அலட்சியமா விட்டுடுறாங்க. அதுல இன்னும் சிலர், `இவங்க தாத்தா/பாட்டியெல்லாம் 5 வயசுலதான் பேச ஆரம்பிச்சாங்க அப்படித்தான் ஆகும்'னு விட்டுடுவாங்க. இப்படி நேரத்தைக் கடத்தினால், அந்தக் குழந்தையோட பேச்சுத்தன்மை குறைந்துபோய்விடும். பிறந்து 24 மணிநேரம் ஆன குழந்தையைக்கூட இப்போது பரிசோதனை செய்துபார்க்கலாம். அதுக்கான உபகரணங்கள் எங்ககிட்டயும் இருக்கு. அதனால், காலதாமதம் மட்டும் நிச்சயம் செய்யக் கூடாது" என்று கூறி எச்சரித்தார் பள்ளியின் முதல்வர் வள்ளி அண்ணாமலை.

``இந்தப் பயணத்தில் நீங்கள் சந்திக்கும் சவால்கள் என்னென்ன?"

``இதை ஒரு பள்ளின்னு யாருமே ஒப்புக்க மாட்டேங்குறாங்க. `பெற்றோர்களையும் வகுப்பறையில உட்காரவைச்சு `பிளே ஸ்கூல்' நடத்துறீங்களா?'ன்னுதான் பலரும் கேட்பாங்க. இதுபோன்ற குழந்தைகளோடு நாம எவ்வளவு பேசுறோமோ அவ்வளவு ஸ்மார்ட்டா இருப்பாங்க. ஆனா, அதுக்கான நிதானமோ பொறுமையோ இந்தக் காலத்துப் பெற்றோர்களுக்கு இல்லை. `குழந்தையே பேசலை. நாங்க பேசி என்ன பயன்?'னு கேட்பாங்க. ரொம்ப மனவேதனையோடு வருவாங்க. குழந்தைகளை வெளியில கூட்டிட்டுப் போறப்போ, மத்தவங்க என்ன நினைப்பாங்களோனு `hearing aid' சாதனத்தைப் போட்டுவிட மாட்டாங்க. இது ரொம்பவே தவறான விஷயம். இதுபோன்ற சூழ்நிலையில குழந்தைகளைவிட பெற்றோர்களுக்குத்தான் அதிகப்படியான கவனம் எடுத்து அவங்களுக்குத் தேவையான ஆலோசனை வகுப்புகளும் நடத்துவோம். அந்தக் குழந்தைகளின் பெற்றோர்களுக்குத் தன்னம்பிக்கையை உண்டுபண்றதே எங்களுக்கு மிகப்பெரிய சவால்" என்கிறார் பள்ளியின் துணை முதல்வர் மீரா சுரேஷ்.

``இவர்கள் எளிதில் கற்றுக்கொள்ள எந்த மொழி சிறந்தது?"

``நாங்கள் சைகை மொழியை தவறுனு சொல்லல. ஆனா, அந்த மொழி தெரிஞ்சவங்ககிட்ட மட்டும்தான் இவங்க உரையாட முடியும். அதனால முடிஞ்சளவுக்கு சைகை மொழியை தவிர்ப்பது சிறந்தது. இவர்களையும் மற்ற குழந்தைகளைப்போலவே பார்க்கணும். இந்தப் பள்ளியில் ஆங்கிலவழி கல்விதான் கத்துக்கொடுக்கிறோம். அவங்க பெரும்பாலும் இந்த மொழியைத்தான் இந்தப் பள்ளியைவிட்டு வெளியே போனாலும் பயன்படுத்துவாங்க. அதைத்தான் வீட்டிலும் பேச வலியுறுத்துறோம். ஆங்கிலம் பேசத் தெரியாத பெற்றோர்களுக்கும் இலவசமா நாங்களே வகுப்புகள் எடுக்கிறோம். முதலில் ஏதாவது ஒரு மொழியை முழுமையா கத்துக்கிட்டா, மற்றதெல்லாம் `லிப் ரீடிங்' மூலம் எளிதில் கத்துப்பாங்க" என்றார் சரஸ்வதி நாராயணசுவாமி.

• (b)Physically disabled persons with total disability in one or both the hands or legs, spastics totally dumb or deaf persons or totally blind persons.

Provided that such physical disability shall be duly certified by a registered medical practitioner

in the service of the State Government not below the rank of a Civil Surgeon.

Seminar on inclusion and accessibility for the deaf community draws participants from many cities

Mumbai was recently host to the first seminar on inclusion and Accessibility for the people who are deaf and hard of hearing. It was attended by deaf leaders and representatives of the community from across India and was organized by Deaf Association Mumbai (DAM).

Present where participants and guests from various cities like Bhopal, Hyderabad, Pune and Nashik to share thoughts, information, ideas and news related to the deaf community in India.

The seminar was crucial for community which has been looking to voice the challenges it faces due to lack of representation. Despite repeated attempts, the community has not been able to get its demands heard by the government and this has led to a delay in developmental activities.

Pradeep More, General Secretary, DAM, said such meet ups play a vital role. "Meet ups like this help in the sharing of information about deaf people. These are vital to bring the community together and to create awareness. Through these seminars, deaf people can get to know about their rights and fight for them with the support of others. The seminar helped bring a feeling of unity among the participants.”

During the seminar, deaf leaders from Maharashtra spoke about the recent protest demonstration that was held in Pune, where thousands of deaf people had gathered to draw the government's attention. They were faced with a lathi charge at the hands of police.

The seminar covered some important topics through lectures such as attitudes towards challenges presented by T.K.M Sandeep, Deaf Enabled Foundation. There were several discussions about the latest assistive technologies that are now available for deaf people.

Priti Soni of the Deaf Can Foundation focused on women's rights.

"I felt that there is a strong need for creating awareness among women about their rights under the laws. We need to work towards spreading this information among deaf women.- Priti Soni, CEO, Deaf Can Foundation"

Participants were also informed about government machinery at district level and its impact on the rights and welfare of people with disabilities. Education of deaf children was also one of the topics covered.

Manoj Patwari, President, State Level Association of the Deaf (SLAD) spoke about the demands raised by the deaf community in the state and the government response.

Include us, hearing-impaired in UAE tell cinema halls

Hearing-impaired people miss out of good films because they are unable to follow films which do not have subtitles.

The community of hearing -impaired in the UAE are complaining that most movies played at the cinemas do not have subtitles.

"I know lots of hearing-impaired adults and children who enjoy watching films. If subtitles were available, they would be enjoy better," said Gulshan Kavarana, founder of Special Families Support (SFS), whose 21-year-old daughter Zara has Dravet Syndrome - a rare form of epilepsy.

Kavarana, who is also an art mentor at the Mawaheb Art Studio for people of determination, added that the hearing-impaired people miss out of good films because they are unable to follow films which do not have subtitles.

"This is the Year of Tolerance and everyone has the right to be included in society," she said. "Maybe, as an experiment, the top management team should sit in the theatre without sound and experience what hearing-impaired people feel."

Victor Sitali, a 28-year-old professional artist from Zambia, said he is hearing-impaired but "enjoys watching movies from different cultures". But for anything to make sense one ought to understand, he added. "We would be happy if we have subtitles for movies and documentaries played in theatres here."

Zia Ul Haq Mirza, a 22-year-old Pakistani resident, said: "I love to watch Bollywood and English movies, but lack of subtitles is a big challenge for me due to my hearing impairment."

Sofia Mehari Molla, a 32-year-old Ethiopian volunteer at the Mawaheb Art Studio for people of determination, said she has hearing impairment. "I can enjoy movies only if there are subtitles.," she said.

With no subtitles, movies do not make sense as we just understand movements, she added. "I hope we will soon have options for people like me and others who have hearing challenges."

Rubina Kola, an Indian accountant, said she finds it difficult to watch movies in cinema theatres. "It's isolating and upsetting that we don't have the freedom and ability to go to cinemas, like other people do. If a film is not subtitled, we don't watch it because we will not understand anything."

Sadath Husain Kola, Rubina Kola's husband, who is also hearing-impaired, said that subtitles are important and should be done on all movies, TV shows, videos and documentaries.

"Deaf awareness aims to improve the lives of people living with hearing issues and hearing loss by removing communication barriers, improving public awareness and supporting new technology. Captions/subtitles help describe audio elements that play a role in the wider story. It's not just about the spoken words."

Rohit Manek, a 27-year-old, said going for movies is a great fun event he enjoys with family and friends. "We are friends coming from different parts of the world and English is the common medium. However, we miss out because we can't follow dialogues."

காது கேளாத, வாய் பேச முடியாத 53 வயது பெண்ணிடம் கொள்ளை அடித்த 29 வயது டான் மின் பின்னுக்கு மூன்றாண்டு சிறை, 12 பிரம்படிகள் விதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.
அந்தப் பெண்ணிடமிருந்து திருடிய பொருட்களில் சிங்கப்பூர் காதுகேளாதோர் சங்கத்தின் உறுப் பினர் அட்டையைப் பார்த்த பிறகும் கூட அவரிடமிருந்து திருடிய பொருட்களை அவரிடம் டான் ஒப்படைக்கவில்லை.
கடந்த ஆண்டு ஆகஸ்ட் மாதம் 15ஆம் தேதி இரவு 8.50 மணியளவில் பேருந்து நிறுத்தத்தி லிருந்து வீட்டுக்குச் சென்றுகொண் டிருந்த திருவாட்டி சான் மெய் லெய்யைப் பின் தொடர்ந்த டான், சீமெய் ஸ்திரீட் 1ல் உள்ள புளோக் 133ன் மின்தூக்கியிலும் அவரைத் தொடர்ந்தார்.
ஒன்பதாவது மாடியில் மின் தூக்கிக் கதவு திறந்தபோது வெளியேறுவதுபோல நடித்து மீண்டும் மின்தூக்கிக்குள் நுழைந்த டான், திருவாட்டி சானிட மிருந்து கைப்பையைப் பிடுங்க முயற்சி செய்தார்.
ஆனால், திருவாட்டி சான் தன்னுடைய பையைத் தற்காத்துக் கொள்ள முயற்சி செய்தார்.
அப்போது திருவாட்டி டானை மின்தூக்கியின் சுவற்றில் தள்ளி விட்டு அவரது பணப்பையைப் பிடுங்கிக்கொண்டு எட்டாவது மாடியிலிருந்து படிக்கட்டு வழியாக இறங்கி டான் தப்பிச் சென்றார்.
கத்தி யாரிடமும் உதவி கோர முடியாததால், உறவினரின் உதவியை நாட வீட்டுக்கு விரைந் தார் திருவாட்டி சான்.
திருவாட்டி சானின் பணப் பையில் இருந்த யுஓபி வங்கி அட்டை, பணம் நிரப்பப்பட்ட அட் டைகள் 2, ஒரு பேஷன் அட்டை போன்றவற்றை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு அவரது பணப்பையை வீசிவிட்டு அங்கிருந்து தப்பிய டானை, மின் தூக்கியில் இருந்த கண்காணிப்பு கேமராவில் பதிவான காணொளி யின் உதவியுடன் அடுத்த இரண்டு மணி நேரத்துக்குள் போலிசார் பிடித்தனர்.
இந்தச் சம்பவத்துக்குப் பிறகு திருவாட்டி சானுக்கு ஏற்பட்ட உடல் நலக்குறைவுக்காக சாங்கி பொது மருத்துவமனையில் 3 நாட்கள் தங்கி சிகிச்சை பெற்றார்.
அதற்கான மருத்துவச் செல வாக $800 வழங்கும்படி டானுக்கு நீதிபதி உத்தரவிட்டார்.
பணத்தைச் செலுத்த இயலாவிட்டால் அவர் மேலும் ஒரு நாள் சிறையில் இருக்க வேண்டி இருக்கும்.
