Kids with sight, hearing disabilities decode bird calls in U'khand avian census

Dehradun: Visually and hearing-impaired students in Dehradun took part in the second cycle of the Uttarakhand Bird Count (UBC) 2025 on Saturday identifying 28 bird species during three sessions held within their school campus. Statewide, 144 observers, including specially-abled participants, recorded 344 species from a checklist of 371, officials said.

The children, trained over several weeks, approached birdwatching through distinct sensory methods eight visually impaired boys used sound, while nine hearing-impaired students relied on sight. "This is the first time specially-abled children have been formally included in a bird count anywhere in the country," said Riya Jain, an intern with the Uttarakhand Biodiversity Board. "They conducted the observation independently after being trained in bird calls and physical traits."

Parakeets, blue whistling thrushes and multiple species of sparrows were among those identified. Naturalist Arun Sarkar, who led the Dehradun sessions, said the students had not been assisted beyond orientation. "We called the modules 'ears over eyes' and 'silent conversation with nature' not as metaphors, but as descriptions of how they actually observed birds," he told TOI.

Ornithologist Sanjay Sondhi, one of the lead coordinators, said the bird count was structured as a citizen science initiative. "Our aim is full participation and these children are not outliers. Their capacity to engage with nature is no less than anyone else's," he said.

At Sharp Memorial School for the Blind, students aged 7 to 16 have been involved in nature-based activities for nearly a year. Superintendent Ancy John said the outdoor sessions have become central to their learning. "They take pride in these opportunities. This isn't token inclusion they are genuinely excited to be part of the larger effort," she said.

Vansh Srivastava, a Class 7 student who is visually impaired, said he had been learning to identify birds by sound for several months. "Today we learnt about dodos and drongos. We also heard about the spitting cobra and green and black mambas during our walk," he said. The census is being conducted by the forest department, with support from local NGOs, birdwatchers, students and naturalists. Saturday's count began with a tribute to Suniti Bhushan Datta a prominent birder from Doon Valley who died of cardiac arrest a day earlier, on his way to participate.

Observers in Nainital recorded a flock of over 50 vultures including cinereous vulture, Himalayan griffon and steppe eagle, all on the IUCN Red List. In Munsyari, the elusive satyr tragopan was spotted a species not recorded in last year's cycle. The first UBC in 2024 had documented 399 species out of the 729 known from Uttarakhand. This year's count will include 81 birding sessions 62 public walks and 19 invitation-only events covering all 13 districts.

At 25, Diksha Dagar stands as one of India's most accomplished and inspiring athletes. A two-time Olympian, a two-time Ladies European Tour (LET) winner, is an inspiration to countless girls in the country who aspire to achieve something in the field of sport.

Behind her glittering achievements lies a story of grit, silence, and an unshakeable belief that limitations are only as powerful as one allows them to be.

As the Arjuna Awardee golfer prepares to represent India at her third Deaflympics, scheduled to take place in Tokyo from November 15-26, Diksha sat down with myKhel for a candid conversation on her journey, early struggles, form this season, and the dreams she continues to chase.

A Childhood Framed by Silence

When Diksha was born in Jhajjar, her parents realised early that she did not respond to sound. Doctors diagnosed her with profound hearing impairment, a moment that could have defined her future forever. But her father, Col. Narinder Dagar, an Army officer and scratch golfer, refused to accept that destiny.

At just six, Diksha underwent a cochlear implant, introducing her partially to the world of sound. She could hear only from one ear. Balance was difficult; direction was a constant challenge.

In a sport like golf-where rhythm, spatial awareness, and precision are everything-her condition should have been a barrier. Instead, it became the beginning of an incredible story. "My father taught me everything," she recalls. "Golf became my way of expressing myself."

Growing Up Without Sign Language

Unlike most deaf children, Diksha grew up in regular schools, unaware of sign language or the broader deaf community. "I didn't even know I was 'deaf,'" she says. "I thought I was just like everyone else."

However, speaking fluently still took time and it was made possible only through regular speech therapy. A structured home environment helped her integrate seamlessly.

Her early years were defined by her parents' relentless commitment to ensuring she grew up without feeling "limited" by her impairment. Her father, Col Narinder Dagar, who himself was a former scratch golfer, introduced her to the game of golf.

At seven, she held a golf club for the first time. By 12, the southpaw was winning junior tournaments. And by 15, she had established herself among India's top female amateur golfers in the circuit.

A Lonely Start at Her First Deaflympics

At the 2017 Deaflympics, Diksha got an opportunity to represent India at the age of 16. Though was in a world that technically belonged to her - but felt distant. Why? She didn't knew how to communicate with fellow athletes. "I didn't know sign language. I didn't know what to expect. I felt too young and unaware."

But she let her game speak. Diksha stunned everyone by winning silver, marking a sensational debut for India in a sport introduced to the Deaflympics for the first time.

Talking further, how difficult a game like golf can be for people with hearing impairments, the Haryana girl says, "People don't realise, when you hear from only one ear, you don't know where sounds come from. Balance is tough. But I never thought about it. My family made me feel normal."

Her honesty reflects the emotional and physical strain athletes often hide behind medals and headlines.

From Deaflympics Silver to Olympic History

Diksha's career leapt forward again in 2021. A last-minute withdrawal by South African golfer Paula Reto opened a slot for India, and Diksha received an unexpected Olympic invitation.

She became the first deaf Indian athlete to compete in the Olympics, and the only golfer ever to play both the Olympics and Deaflympics.

She continued making history in 2022 when she won gold at the 2021 Deaflympics (held in Caxias do Sul), becoming the only golfer with two Deaflympic medals since golf was introduced to the Games.

Eyes Set On Gold in Tokyo

As she prepares for Tokyo, Diksha remains confident. "I am very excited because I am playing for my country," she says. "I've won a medal before. I can win a medal again."

She admits competition has grown: "There were fewer girls earlier. Now more athletes are coming. The field is stronger - and that's good.

Diksha is among the rare Indian athletes who not only shine in disability events but also compete fiercely in able-bodied championships. She shares this distinction with para-archery sensation Sheetal Devi, whom she praises generously.

"Everything is possible," she insists. "Technology, cochlear implants, therapy - deaf people can live like normal people. You should never underestimate yourself."

Talking about Sheetal Devi's rise to the able-bodied category despite having no arms, she pauses, then says with admiration: "Her achievement is huge. Competing with normal athletes shows her skill and courage. It creates awareness for everyone. It motivates us too."

India is sending a record 111-member contingent across 11 sports including badminton, judo, shooting, wrestling, athletics, and golf. The Deaflympics, conducted by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) and recognised by the IOC, is the second oldest multi-sport global event after the Olympics. In 2021, India secured 16 medals, their best-ever finish - a milestone Diksha hopes to help surpass.

Diksha Dagar's journey is not just about sporting excellence; it is about refusing to let adversity define your destiny. Her story is one of courage, resilience, and limitless ambition - a reminder that representation matters and dreams don't discriminate.

Deaf Tesla Employee Fired After Complaining About Heat Causing Hearing Aids Malfunction

The deaf Tesla employee has filed a lawsuit against the company.

A deaf Tesla employee has sued the company after requesting reassignment due to casting department heat damaging his hearing aids.

A deaf employee at Tesla's Texas Gigafactory has filed a lawsuit against the company, alleging wrongful termination after he raised concerns about the impact of the plant's high temperatures on his hearing aids. Hans Kohls stated in his complaint that his assignment to the casting department, where melting aluminium reached temperatures exceeding 660C (1,220F) caused his hearing aids to malfunction, rendering him unable to hear the alarms, alerts and other audible safety signals.

Rather than accommodate Kohls under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Elon Musk-owned company fired him instead. Kohls' attorney Andrew Rozynsk claimed his client's request was basic, adding that the facts of the case were "stark and troubling".

"Tesla had a highly qualified employee who requested the most basic accommodation under the ADA, reassignment to a vacant position where he'd already demonstrated success. Instead of complying with the law, they fired him within nine days and told him he was being 'medically separated,'" Rozynski was quoted as saying by The Independent.

In February 2024, Kohls applied for the Tesla START programme, a 10-week training initiative aimed at providing technical skills to workers who intend to join the ranks of the electric car manufacturer. He was hired into the programme the following month, which focused on robotics and manufacturing. Kohls excelled in the programme, earning a final grade of 95.7 per cent, which placed him in the top distinction.

Afterwards, he worked in various departments at the Gigafactory, such as vehicle validation and the drive unit. The temperature in these departments was significantly cooler than the casting department, where he would be sent to work later. As per the complaint, Kohls was not informed that the heat conditions in the casting department would far exceed the standard industrial heat levels.

'Tesla Lied'

In mid-June 2024, Kohls submitted a reasonable accommodation request and presented the necessary medical documentation, as required, and complied fully with company protocols. However, he was fired later. The lawsuit also claims that Tesla lied about the open positions that Kohls could have filled, having previously worked in multiple departments at the Gigafactory.

"Tesla never discussed with Mr. Kohls what positions were available or why reassignment was not feasible. Tesla failed to inquire whether Kohls could perform in other departments - despite his documented success in Vehicle Validation and Drive Unit."

Kohls claims that Tesla violated the ADA and the Texas state labour code, which led to severe emotional distress, anxiety, depression, mental anguish, humiliation and embarrassment. He is seeking that the court reinstate him to an appropriate position within Tesla, in addition to front pay, back pay, lost wages, benefits, retirement contributions, stock options, compensatory damages and punitive damages.

Guntur: A deaf awareness camp was conducted by Guntur lead bank office, jointly with all banks in Guntur on Friday. The session went on smoothly with meaningful interactions throughout, and the experiences shared by the claimants were truly touching, highlighting the need for continuous awareness.

The efforts made by bankers in handling deaf accounts were widely appreciated. Their dedication in guiding claimants and supporting the process has been excellent.

Olympian Diksha Dagar will lead a 73-member Indian contingent at the Deaflympics 2015, scheduled to be held in Japan from November 15 to 26.

The Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics will be available to watch on live streaming in India.

This is the largest-ever Indian squad at the Deaflympics.

Indian athletes will compete for medals across 11 sports – athletics, badminton, golf, judo, karate, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, wrestling and tennis - at Tokyo 2025.

Diksha Dagar, who represented India at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as well as Paris 2024, returns to the Japanese capital for the Deaflympics as the reigning women’s golf champion.

She won gold in the 2022 edition held in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, and bagged a silver earlier in 2017.

Several of India’s other standout performers from the previous Deaflympics are also set to return.

Jerlin Anika Jayaratchagan, who swept three gold medals in badminton, will lead the contingent as India’s flag-bearer at Deaflympics 2025.

Dhanush Srikanth, the double gold medallist and 10m air rifle world record holder, Abhinav Deshwal, gold medallist in 10m air pistol, and Prithvi Sekhar, who won three medals in tennis, are all in the squad.

Overall, India’s Deaflympics 2025 squad features 45 men and 28 women. Shooting will see the largest contingent with 12, followed by athletics with 11 track and field athletes in action.

The Deaflympics are an international multi-sport event for deaf athletes, sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and organised by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD). They are usually held every four years, with separate Summer and Winter editions.

Tokyo 2025 marks the 25th edition of the Summer Deaflympics, which began back in 1924 with Paris hosting the inaugural edition.

India first participated in the International Deaf Games (now Deaflympics) in 1965 and has won a total of 52 medals at the multi-sport meet.

India’s best-ever performance at the Deaflympics came at Caxias do Sul 2021 with a 16-medal haul - eight gold, one silver and seven bronze - which secured a ninth-place finish among 77 nations.

Justice Listens Through The Heart: Karnataka High Court Lauds Hearing-Impaired Lawyer For Arguing Case Through Sign-Language Interpreter

The Karnataka High Court recently appreciated Advocate Sarah Sunny, a hearing-impaired counsel who appeared in court and argued a case with the help of a sign language interpreter. It said, “This court records with profound admiration, its appreciation for Miss Sarah Sunny, who has transcended the boundaries of silence.”

Justice M. Nagaprasanna said, “Her endeavour shall remain an enduring inspiration, a luminous reminder that justice in its truest form, not only listens through the ear, but through the heart.”

It added, “The court said Miss Sarah Sunny is a distinguished member of the bar who, despite being hearing impaired, has demonstrated that true advocacy transcends barriers of sound.”

Referring to an article published in the New York Times on 24th March 1982, the Court noted it chronicled a significant moment — the appearance of the first hearing-impaired lawyer before the Supreme Court of the United States, representing a 10-year-old hearing-impaired girl. On that occasion, the Court, for the first time in history, permitted the use of special electronic equipment within its precincts.

Emphasising that courts in Australia have made way for similar accommodations, and that the United Kingdom has extended inclusion to even hearing-impaired jurors through enlightened legislation, the Court said these efforts mark a testament to humanity's collective march towards equality.

The bench said, “Miss Sarah Sunny defied every decibel of doubt, delivered her arguments, with composure and eloquence, which resonated with the same conviction, of any seasoned advocate.”

Noting that hearing-impaired advocates constitute a rare minority, the bench said, “The Constitutional Courts, which are the guardians of equality, bear a solemn duty to facilitate and empower such advocates to help them break the sound barrier that stands between them and their full participation in the judicial process. Her performance before this Court was nothing short of being exemplary. Her submissions, though conveyed through an Interpreter, bore the hallmarks of refined advocacy.”

Advocate Sarah had represented a woman seeking quashment of a Section 41A Cr.P.C. notice issued against her husband and a consequential mandamus seeking a direction to arrest him and produce him before the jurisdictional Magistrate, and to initiate a departmental inquiry against the officers who had let him off, and a further mandamus to issue detailed guidelines regarding procedure to be followed when a person against whom a LOC circular is issued arrives on the soil of the nation.

The husband was detained based on a LOC issued against him on arriving in India from Scotland. He moved the High Court challenging the same and, while the proceedings were pending, suppressing the pendency of the subject petition and day-to-day hearing of the matter, filed an application before the learned Magistrate for recall of the LOC. The learned Magistrate, without hearing any person except the State, recalled the LOC and permitted the husband to travel back to Scotland. The next day, the husband preferred a memo seeking to withdraw the petition filed by him.

The bench, on going through the records and considering that the husband had left India, held, “The LOC, as observed hereinabove, is an executive edict — administrative in its conception and effect, and therefore, beyond the ken of trial Courts to annul or tamper with. The role of such concerned Court is confined strictly to adjudicating the criminal lis before them in accordance with the established procedure. The power to scrutinize, rescind, or uphold a LOC flows solely from the font of constitutional jurisdiction, vested in the writ Courts. To countenance any encroachment upon this settled demarcation of authority would be to invite anarchy into the administration of justice, eroding both comity and coherence within the judicial framework. Therefore, the trial Court has acted beyond its jurisdiction.”

It added, “It is hereby declared and clarified with unmistakable emphasis that the learned Magistrates before whom criminal proceedings are pending, shall not entertain, under any guise or pretext, applications assailing or seeking the recall, suspension or modification of a LOC. Any indulgence by the trial Courts in this regard, shall be deemed to be an act in excess of jurisdiction and will invite serious disapproval.”

Disposing of the petitions, the court directed the Registry to forthwith circulate a copy of this order to all the criminal Courts within the State.

Maharashtra win IDCA's 9th T20 National Cricket Championship for deaf 2025

New Delhi [India], November 10 (ANI): Maharashtra Deaf team defeated Jammu & Kashmir Deaf team by eight runs to emerge as the champions of the 9th T20 National Cricket Championship for the Deaf in New Delhi.

The champion's trophy was handed to Maharashtra captain Pranil More by Chief Guest Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Member of Parliament for West Delhi, who was present at the closing ceremony along with Jai Bhagwan Yadav, Deputy. Mayor, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Jaswinder Narang, CEO Villoo Poonawalla Foundation & Serum Institute of India, according to a release from IDCA.

Congratulating the players, Kamaljeet Sehrawat said, "I am really honoured to be here today and witness the final match. Our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has been leading from the front when it comes to sports and inclusivity, and I am happy to be a small part of it here. I congratulate all the players who are present here and wish to end by saying that one day I hope I also get to witness you all as part of the Indian team and lifting the World trophy."

Jaswinder Narang, CEO of Villoo Poonawalla Foundation & Serum Institute of India, congratulated all the participants and added. "I congratulate all cricketers on their remarkable performance. A total of 20 teams from across the country participated in the championship, which was kicked off on November 3rd at Delhi's Essex Farm Cricket Ground in Chhawla. The 9th edition of the T20 National Cricket Championship for Deaf 2025 was organised by The Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA), supported by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and recognised by the Deaf International Cricket Council & Asian Deaf Cricket Association.

The week-long championship, organised under the patronage of Cyrus Poonawalla Group, brought together some of India's most talented hearing-impaired cricketers from across the nation and had representatives from Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Telangana, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Punjab, Odisha, Delhi, and Bengal.

The matches were hosted across four venues in Chhawla -- Essex Farms Cricket Club and Academy, Harryan Cricket Academy, Arihant Cricket Ground, and Arihant Mount Cricket Club -- ensuring simultaneous matches and an exciting schedule throughout the tournament.

The fixture included 40 league matches from 3rd to 7th November, followed by quarterfinals on Saturday 8th November and semi-finals on the morning of 9th November, followed by the grand final in the afternoon.

Speaking about the championship, Sumit Jain, President, IDCA, said, "The 9th T20 National Cricket Championship for Deaf celebrated the spirit and resilience of our very talented hearing-impaired athletes who travelled from across the country to be part of this amazing event. We could not have achieved what we witnessed over the past week without the generous support of the Cyrus Poonawalla Group and our partners, we thank them for the continuous support and promise to continue creating a strong platform for differently abled cricketers to shine on a national stage."

The Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA), backed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and acknowledged by the Deaf International Cricket Council, launched the ninth T20 National Cricket Championship for Deaf in 2025. A grand opening ceremony took place at Essex Farm Cricket Ground in Chhawla, New Delhi, attended by prominent guests including Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma and SBK Singh, IPS.

The week-long tournament, under the aegis of the Cyrus Poonawalla Group, runs from November 3 to November 9, featuring 20 teams from diverse states. These include Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and others, competing across four venues in Chhawla. The matches offer a thrilling spectacle, culminating in the grand final on November 9.

IDCA President Sumit Jain emphasized the championship as a movement celebrating the spirit and talent of hearing-impaired cricketers. The court, in the order passed on Monday, said the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 leaves no scope of discrimination between persons having hearing impairment vis-a-vis those having physical or locomotor disability

The Delhi High Court has directed the Centre to frame appropriate criteria for conferring the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, 2025 on hearing impaired sportspersons, noting that the existing criteria discriminates against them vis-a-vis para sportspersons.

The court, in the order passed on Monday (November 3, 2025), said the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 leaves no scope of discrimination between persons having hearing impairment vis-a-vis those having physical or locomotor disability.

It added, in the context of the ‘Scheme of Cash Awards for Medal Winners’ in international sports events, lack of opportunity for deaf sportspersons has the impact of creating a discriminatory regime.

Justice Sachin Datta said the criteria be framed expeditiously to enable the deaf sportspersons to submit applications for the purpose of award, and directed that the deadline, which was October 28, for submission of applications be extended suitably.

The court was hearing a plea by Mr. Virender Singh, internationally renowned hearing impaired wrestler, multi-time Deaflympics gold medallist and an Arjuna Awardee, along with another deaf sportsperson.

Mr. Singh, represented by advocate Ajay Verma, challenged exclusion of deaf athletes from key government sports schemes and alleged discriminatory treatment vis-a-vis para-athletes and sought parity between deaf and para-athletes.

His plea stated that while framing the criteria for conferring the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award 2025, no dispensation is created for hearing impaired sportspersons.

After going through the criteria, the court observed that there is no scope for hearing impaired sportspersons to even apply or be considered for conferment of the award, making it discriminatory against deaf sportspersons vis-a-vis para sportspersons.

“In the above conspectus, there is merit in the contentions of the petitioner/applicant that the aforesaid criteria discriminate against deaf sportspersons vis-a-vis para sportspersons,” it said.

Missing Deaf-Mute Hindu Minor Girl Surfaces In Pak, Married To Older Man

A 15-year-old Hindu girl, born deaf and mute, who was missing for over a week, has surfaced before the media in Pakistan's Sindh province, holding a certificate of conversion to Islam after allegedly marrying a much older Muslim man.

The girl from Korwah town in Badin district had gone missing around nine days ago. Her parents had lodged an abduction complaint with the local police.

On Saturday, she appeared before the media at Badin Press Club alongside her alleged husband, where photographs of her holding the conversion certificate were taken.

Her father questioned how a deaf and mute minor could have agreed to marry a man who is a drug dealer and already has seven daughters.

Shiva Kachhi, who heads the Darawar Ittehad Pakistan, an organisation working for the welfare and rights of Hindus and minorities, said the girl had been abducted, but the police failed to take any action despite the family's complaint.

"We have spoken to our lawyers to pursue the case as we don't believe the girl could have done this willingly," Kachhi said, adding that he had also written to senior police officials demanding an independent inquiry into the incident.

58-year-old sentenced to life for raping hearing and speech impaired girl in India’s Odisha

On 29 July 2022, the accused trespassed into the victim’s house and committed rape in the absence of her parents. The victim’s younger sister was a witness to the crime.

BHUBANESHWAR – A court in Odisha’s Bargarh district on Tuesday convicted a 58-year-old man and sentenced him to undergo life imprisonment after finding him guilty of committing rape of an 18-year-old hearing and speech impaired girl three years back.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Padampur, awarded the sentence against the convict Tiharu Bhue (58) under Section 376(2)(l) of the Indian Penal Code. The Court further imposed fines totaling Rs 35,000, with additional imprisonment in default of payment.

On 29 July 2022, the accused trespassed into the victim’s house and committed rape in the absence of her parents. The victim’s younger sister was a witness to the crime. As the rape survivor’s sibling raised an alarm, she was physically assaulted and threatened by the accused, who later fled the crime scene, according to the case record.

The accused was promptly arrested by local police a day after the crime. Both the victim and the accused were medically examined, and the biological exhibits were sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory for forensic analysis.

The Court also directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Bargarh, to initiate the process for victim compensation under relevant legal provisions. This case stands as an example of effective police-prosecution coordination, timely forensic support, and committed judicial oversight in delivering timely justice to a vulnerable victim, said Bargarh Superintendent of Police, Prahlad Sahai Meena.

The case ended in conviction due to timely identification for fast-tracking, prompt police supervision for ensuring procedural efficiency, swift forensic examination by SFSL, timely submission of charge sheet, close coordination between police and public prosecutor, consistent witness production, dedicated prosecution by the counsel to make it a watertight case, SP Meena concluded.

Mr Deaf India 2025 meets Manipur Governor, bats for school for hearing impaired

Veihriilo Lanah, winner of the Mr. Deaf India 2025 title, called on Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan, Imphal, on Tuesday, October 14.

During the meeting, Lanah sought the Governor’s support to participate in the upcoming Mr. Deaf International Contest to be held in Genoa, Italy, from November 28 to December 8, 2025, where he will represent India.

Governor Bhalla congratulated Lanah on his remarkable achievement and praised his efforts toward promoting inclusivity and empowering persons with disabilities. He expressed confidence that Lanah’s participation in the international pageant would bring pride and recognition not only to Manipur but to the entire nation.

Lanah, hailing from Manipur, was crowned Mr. Deaf India 2025 at the 12th edition of the national pageant held in Punjab on August 30–31, 2025.

வாய்பேச முடியாத இளம் பெண் ஒருவரை நள்ளிரவில் வீடு புகுந்து பாலியல் பலாத்காரம் செய்ய முற்பட்ட குற்றச்சாட்டில் கைது செய்யப்பட்ட சந்தேகநபரை 14 நாட்கள் விளக்கமறியலில் வைக்க ஊர்காவற்றுறை நீதவான் நீதிமன்றம் உத்தரவிட்டுள்ளது.

 
சம்பவம் தொடர்பில் அல்லைப்பிட்டி பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த 35 வயதுடைய வாய்பேச முடியாத பெண் ஒருவர் வழங்கிய முறைப்பாட்டின் அடிப்படையில் குறித்த நபர் நேற்று (14) நள்ளிரவு 11.30 மணியளவில் அல்லைப்பிட்டி கடற்பரப்பில் வைத்து ஊர்காவற்றுறை பொலிஸாரால் கைது செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளார்.

குறித்த சம்பவம் தொடர்பில் மேலும் தெரியவருவதாவது,
கடந்த மாதம் 27 ஆம் திகதி குறித்த பெண் வீட்டில் இருந்த சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் சந்தேகநபர் வீட்டிற்குள் புகுந்து அந்த பெண்ணை பாலியல் பலாத்காரம் செய்ய முற்பட்டுள்ளார்.

எனினும் அவரிடம் இருந்து அந்த பெண் தப்பிச் சென்று தமது உறவினர்களுக்கு அறியப்படுத்திய நிலையில், பெண்ணின் உறவினர்களால் பொலிஸாருக்கு தகவல் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இதனையடுத்து சந்தேகநபர் தலைமறைவாகியிருந்ததுடன் அவரை தேடி பொலிஸார் தீவிர விசாரணையில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தனர்.

இந்நிலையிலேயே சந்தேகநபர் அல்லைப்பிட்டி கடற்பரப்பில் வைத்து கைது செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தார்.

இதனை அடுத்து சந்தேகநபர் இன்று ஊர்காவற்றுறை நீதவான் நீதிமன்றில் ஆஜர்படுத்தப்பட்ட நிலையில் அவரை எதிர்வரும் 14 நாட்கள் விளக்கமறியலில் வைக்குமாறு நீதவான் உத்தரவிட்டுள்ளார்.

கரூர் பிரசாரக் கூட்ட நெரிசலில் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட குடும்பத்தினரிடம் நடிகர் விஜய் வீடியோ கால் மூலம் பேசி ஆறுதல் கூறினார். இதுவரை 41 குடும்பங்களில் 33 குடும்பங்களிடம் விஜய் வீடியோ காலில் பேசியிருக்கிறார்.

அவர் தங்களிடம் என்ன பேசினார் என்பதை அந்த மக்கள் ஊடகங்களிடம் பகிர்ந்துள்ளனர். அந்த வகையில் கரூர் கூட்ட நெரிசலில் சிக்கி இறந்தவரின மனைவி சங்கவியிடம், விஜய், "என்றும் உங்களுக்கு ஆறுதலாக இருப்பேன். உங்களை சந்திக்க அனுமதி கேட்டிருக்கிறேன். அது கிடைத்ததும் வந்து சந்திக்கிறேன்" என்றாராம்.

வாய் பேச முடியாத குழந்தை

41 பேர் பலி

கரூர் மாவட்டம் வேலுச்சாமிபுரத்தில் நடந்த தமிழாக வெற்றி கழகத்தின் பொதுக் கூட்டத்தில் செப்டம்பர் 27 அன்று கூட்ட நெரிசல் ஏற்பட்டது. இதில் சுமார் 41 பேர் உயிரிழந்தனர். இந்தச் சம்பவம் தொடர்பாக பல்வேறு விமர்சனங்கள் எழுந்தன.

இந்தச் சம்பவம் நடந்த பத்து நாட்களுக்குப் பிறகு, பல்வேறு தரப்பிலிருந்தும் எழுந்த விமர்சனங்களுக்குப் பிறகு, த.வெ.க தலைவர் விஜய் , பாதிக்கப்பட்ட குடும்பத்தினரை நேரில் சந்திக்காமல், அக்டோபர் 6 மற்றும் 7 ஆம் தேதிகளில் வீடியோ கால்கள் மூலம் பேசத் தொடங்கினார்.

அண்ணனாக இருப்பேன்

வீடியோ காலில் விஜய், நடந்த சம்பவத்திற்காக தனது வருத்தத்தையும் இரங்கலையும் தெரிவித்தார். இது ஈடுசெய்ய முடியாத இழப்பு என்று கூறினார்.
உயிரிழந்தவர்களின் குடும்பங்களிடம், "நான் உங்களுடன் இருக்கிறேன், உங்களுக்குத் துணையாக நிற்பேன்" என்று உறுதியளித்தார். ஒரு குடும்பத்தில், இறந்தவரின் சகோதரியிடம், "நான் உங்களுக்கு அண்ணன் ஸ்தானத்தில் இருப்பேன்" என்று ஆறுதல் கூறினார். இன்னொரு குடும்பப் பெண்ணிடம் "நான் உங்கள் மகன் போல" என்றும் ஆறுதல் தெரிவித்ததாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது.

நேரில் வரேன்

சட்டச் சிக்கல்கள் மற்றும் "சில சிரமங்கள்" காரணமாக தற்போதைக்கு நேரில் வர முடியவில்லை என்றும், விரைவில் அனுமதி பெற்று வந்து குடும்பத்தினரை நேரில் சந்திப்பதாகவும் அவர் உறுதியளித்துள்ளார்.

ரெக்கார்டு செய்ய வேண்டாம்

சென்னை: மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் கார் வாங்க அளிக்கப்பட்டு வந்த 10% ஜிஎஸ்டி சலுகை ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டதை கைவிட வேண்டும் என்று பாமக தலைவர் அன்புமணி ராமதாஸ் வலியுறுத்தியுள்ளார்.

இது குறித்து அன்புமணி வெளியிட்டுள்ள வலைதள பதிவில்: "உணவுப் பொருள்கள் தொடங்கி வாகனங்கள் வரை பெரும்பான்மையான பொருள்களுக்கான ஜிஎஸ்டி வரியின் அளவு கணிசமாக குறைக்கப்பட்டது மக்களுக்கு மகிழ்ச்சியை ஏற்படுத்தியிருந்த நிலையில், இதைக் காரணம் காட்டி மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் மகிழுந்து வாங்க வழங்கப்பட்டு வந்த 10% வரிச் சலுகை ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டு இருப்பது வருத்தமளிக்கிறது.

ஜிஎஸ்டி வரிச் சீர்திருத்தத்திற்கு முன்பாக அனைத்து மகிழுந்துகளுக்கும் 28% வரி வசூலிக்கப்பட்டு வந்தது. மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் மகிழுந்து வாங்கும் போது அவர்களுக்கு 10% வரிச் சலுகை வழங்கப்பட்டு, 18% மட்டுமே வரி வசூலிக்கப்பட்டு வந்தது. இப்போது சிறிய மகிழுந்துகளுக்கான ஜிஎஸ்டி வரி 18% ஆக குறைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள நிலையில், பெரிய மகிழுந்துகளுக்கான வரி 40% ஆக அதிகரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த மாற்றத்திற்கு பிறகு மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் வாங்கும் சிறிய மகிழுந்துகளுக்கான 10% வரிச் சலுகை ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. அனைத்துப் பிரிவினருமே சிறிய மகிழுந்துகளுக்கு 18% வரி செலுத்த வேண்டும் என்று அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இது நியாயமல்ல.

மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகளுக்கு சலுகை அளிக்க வேண்டும் என்பதற்காகத் தான் அவர்களுக்கு 10% வரிச் சலுகை வழங்கப்பட்டு வந்தது. பொதுவாகவே மகிழுந்துகளுக்கான வரிகள் குறைக்கப்பட்டதைக் காரணம் காட்டி வரிச் சலுகையை ரத்து செய்வது அநீதியாகும். மத்திய அரசால் வழங்கப்பட்டு வந்த இந்த வரிச் சலுகை தான் நடுத்தர வகுப்பைச் சேர்ந்த மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகளும் மகிழுந்து வாங்குவதற்கு ஊக்கம் அளிப்பதாக இருந்தது. இந்த சலுகை நிறுத்தப்பட்டால் அவர்கள் மகிழுந்து வாங்குவதற்கான வாய்ப்புகள் தடைபட்டு போய்விடும்.

எனவே, மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் மகிழுந்து வாங்க அளிக்கப்பட்டு வந்த 10% ஜிஎஸ்டி சலுகை ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டதை கைவிட வேண்டும். அதன் மூலம் அவர்களுக்கு 8% ஜிஎஸ்டி விதிப்பில் மகிழுந்து கிடைப்பதை உறுதி செய்ய வேண்டும்” என்று அன்புமணி வலியுறுத்தியுள்ளார்.

சென்னை: அரசுப் பேருந்தில் மாற்றுத்திறனாளியிடம் கட்டணச் சலுகை டிக்கெட் வழங்காமல் ரூ.10 கூடுதலாக வாங்கிய நடத்துநரிடம் இருந்து இழப்பீடாக ரூ.17,010 செலுத்த போக்குவரத்துக் கழகத்திற்கு நெல்லை நுகர்வோர் ஆணையம் உத்தரவிட்டுள்ளது. 2023ம் ஆண்டு நெல்லையைச் சேர்ந்த இசக்கி செல்வம் என்பவர் மதுரைக்கு பயணம் செய்யும் போது, கட்டணச் சலுகை இல்லாத டிக்கெட் கட்டணம் வசூலித்ததை எதிர்த்து வழக்கு தொடர்ந்திருந்தார்.

மேலும் அந்தக் கடிதத்தில், மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் சிறு ரக கார் வாங்குவதற்கு 10% ஜிஎஸ்டி வரி சலுகை வழங்கப்பட்டு வந்தது. 28% ஜிஎஸ்டி வரி இருந்தபோது அவர்களுக்கு 18% விதிக்கப்பட்டது. தற்போது ஜிஎஸ்டி வரிகளில் மாற்றம் செய்யப்பட்டு சிறு ரக கார்களுக்கு 18% வரி விதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த மாற்றம் செய்யப்பட்டதற்குப் பின்பு மாற்று திறனாளிகளுக்கு வரி சலுகை கொடுக்கத் தேவையில்லை என நிதி அமைச்சகம் கூறிவிட்டதாக ஒன்றிய கனரகத் தொழில்துறை அமைச்சகம் விளக்கம் அளித்துள்ளது.

நாட்டு மக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் ஜிஎஸ்டி வரி குறைக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதாகப் பிரதமர் பெருமைப்பட்டுக்கொள்ளும் நிலையில் அந்த வரிக்குறைப்பு மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகளுக்குக் கிடையாது எனச் சொல்வது எவ்விதத்திலும் நியாயமல்ல. எனவே, ஜிஎஸ்டி வரிக்குறைப்புக்குப் பிறகும் மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகளுக்கு 10% ஜிஎஸ்டி வரி சலுகையை வழங்க வேண்டும்.
