Sign Language Day 2025: Government launches training, e-content to support deaf students
22.09.2025
New Delhi: The Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC) is set to celebrate Sign Language Day 2025 on Tuesday with a host of initiatives aimed at advancing accessibility and inclusion for the deaf community.
A central event, themed “No human rights without sign language rights”, will mark the occasion. Union Social Justice Minister Virendra Kumar will attend as chief guest, while Minister of State B. L. Verma will be the guest of honour, according to an official statement.
A key highlight of the celebration will be the launch of a post-graduate diploma in Indian Sign Language (ISL) interpretation and teaching, alongside a six-month online ISL training programme. The ISLRTC will also roll out 3,189 ISL e-content videos—the largest repository of its kind to date—to enhance digital learning and support deaf education.
Another major development is the integration of ISL into the Project Inclusion App, aimed at aiding mainstream classroom learning environments and making them more inclusive.
Furthering its commitment to educational access, ISLRTC will introduce 100 new STEM terms in ISL, an English teaching programme in collaboration with TEACH, and ISL versions of 18 National Book Trust titles to broaden the availability of literature in sign language.
The event will also feature the release of ISLRTC’s bi-annual newsletter and new teaching-learning materials for both interpreter and teacher training programmes.
Additionally, the winners of the 8th National Indian Sign Language Competition, held across 13 categories, will be felicitated during the celebration, the statement added.
