04.08.2016, VADODARA: From Mumbai's famed 'dabbawalas' to Rahul Swami, who holds the distinction of being India's fastest rangoli artist - students of M S University's Faculty of Technology and Engineering are all geared up to host Prerna - the national level festival that provides a platform to differently abled.
The two days fest which will kick off on August 6 will for the first time include differently abled sports including Korean martial arts - Taekwondo, para-shooting and deaf wrestling.
"All these events are being held for the first time in Gujarat," said Premal Patel, a second year engineering student and volunteer at Prerna.
Virendra Singh aka 'Goonga Pehelwan' who despite his disability won a gold medal at the 2005 Melbourne and the 2013 Bulgaria Deaflympics - the international Olympic for deaf athletes will remain present at the event for deaf wrestling.
"We are expecting nearly 4,000 differently abled participants to take part in Prerna which is being held for the tenth consecutive year. There are 52 differently abled events for the participants and ten visitors' event," he said.
While teams from Vadodara and Ahmedabad will participate in para-shooting, participants from Iran and Nepal are also coming to take part in the event.
Vinod Thakur, India's legless break dancer who has won at several reality shows will also be part of the fest in which several luminaries will deliver motivational guest lectures.
Swami, who hails from Gol Sendhwa, Madhya Pradesh, has been making rangolis since he was 17. His achievement of preparing a 100 square feet rangoli in ten minutes has found a mention in Limca Book of Records.
