NEW DELHI: No one was probably watching when Lee Sung fished out his eighth iron at the fifth tee in the second round at a sparsely-attended Panasonic Open India at the DGC here. Surely, no one heard a thing when the ball bounced off the green and rolled in for a hole in one. But it was probably deafening for l the 36-year-old Lee, who is hearing impaired and walks the course with his fate her, the 68-year-old Lee Kang Kun, his caddie, coach and guru.
A big hitter on the Tour, Lee has been winning the Driving Distance category for the past three seasons. This was his second hole-in-one on the Tour and while he retains an outside chance at the title here being four strokes shy of leader Mukesh Kumar, Saturday's ace consumed their immediate focus and even caused a peculiar problem.
Lee won a BMW Z4 car, worth over Rs 68 lakh in India, as the prize for his effort, but most of the sponsors weren't reportedly around to witness it. While the Korean father-son duo wondered who to approach with the issue of claiming the reward, the other headache was ferrying it back to Seoul. "We are thinking of selling the car here because we are not sure how to carry it back to Korea," father Lee said.
