On the occasion of International Day of Disabled persons, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu awarded Miss Deaf Asia 2018 Nishtha Dudeja the 'National Award for Empowerment of Disabled persons (Divyangjan) at Vigyan Bhawan.
She was awarded under the 'Role Model' category for her overall achievement and excellence in the fields of education, sports and art & culture.
The function was organised by the Department of Empowerment of Divyangjan under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. A total of 56 individuals and 16 institutions have been awarded on the occasion.
"It's a moment of great honour and pride to be conferred with the award. There couldn't be a better opportunity than this to create awareness among the public, about the needs of differently abled people."
"I also request all new parents to ensure that their newborn undergoes BERA test so their hearing level can be evaluated. While we have the best available technology in India, what we lack is the awareness," said Nishtha Dudeja.
