Cops reunite speech & hearing impaired girl with mother after five-hour search
26.12.2024 New Delhi: A four-year-old speech and hearing-impaired girl was reunited with her mother, who is similarly Impaired, in central Delhi after police searched for the toddler's family for five hours.
According to DCP (central) M Harsha Vardhan, the child was found near GB Road by officers from the all-woman police post on Shraddhanand Marg. Cops are now taking steps to ensure the child's future, including enrolling her in a specialised school for children with disabilities.
The incident unfolded when sub-inspector Kiran Sethi was on routine patrol with her team. "While patrolling, we came across the child near GB Road. The child appeared scared. So, we asked her where she was headed," Sethi said.
Despite their attempts to engage with her, the child could not respond. Even when offered sweets, she did not speak. Initially confused, the officers eventually realised the girl was hearing and speech impaired. "We immediately alerted nearby police stations and began searching the nearby streets with her," Sethi said.
After hours of searching, police spotted a woman who, upon seeing the child, rushed towards her and began hugging and kissing her. The woman, identified as the girl's mother, was also hearing and speech Impaired. Police verified their identities before reuniting the two.
