3-yr-old deaf-mute boy reunited with parents after rescue at railway station

Nagpur: A three-year-old deaf and mute boy, who was stranded for two days at Nagpur railway station, was reunited with his parents thanks to the swift and compassionate efforts of the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

The child was first spotted alone near the two wheeler parking area adjacent to Platform No. 1 around 12noon on April 23 by an on-duty woman constable of the RPF. The boy appeared lost and distressed, and attempts to communicate revealed that he was unable to speak or hear.

Realising the child had special needs, the constable immediately brought him to the RPF post for safety. Following established procedures under the 'Operation Nanhe Farishte' Initiative, aimed at helping lost or abandoned children, the RPF contacted the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) team. The child was handed over to their care after initial checks and documentation.

Despite their best efforts, the boy could not communicate his name or address, making it difficult to trace his family. Meanwhile, back at the station, his parents both daily wage labourers were frantically searching for him. A day later, they approached the RPF help desk to report their missing son. According to a senior RPF official, the officers showed the couple a photograph of the rescued child. The moment they saw the picture, they identified him as their missing son.
