KOTHAGUDEM: With hope that they will get back ‘their’ missing child, Jajjarla Krishnaiah and Gopamma from Kothagudem district on Tuesday underwent DNA tests in Delhi to ascertain the parentage of Geetha, the deaf and mute child who was brought back to India from Pakistan in November last year.The couple from Patamata Narsapuram in Julurpadu mandal were one of the four claimants of Geetha, who crossed over to Pakistan when she was a child and returned to India by a Karachi-based NGO Edi Foundation.
The Union external affairs ministry had reportedly conducted DNA tests on three couples who have also claimed that Geetha is their daughter. However, none of them were found to be her biological parents.
The couple, who left to Bhopal, where Geetha was lodged, some days back reached Delhi with the help of a NGO People’s Samachar. In Jawahar Lal Bhavan, a team of two AIIMS doctors took the blood samples from the couple to match with Geetha’s.
“We are confident that she is our child and we hope that the tests match,’’ Krishnaiah told Express over phone.
After the tests, the couple left Delhi and will be reaching their native place on Wednesday. Meanwhile, in Bhopal, the couple reportedly tried to meet Geetha but the district collector did not permit. Krishnaiah and Gopamma claim that Geetha is their daughter Rani, whom they lost at a religious congregation in Guntur in January 2006.
