Amit is nephew of Union minister of state Vijay Sampla, who represents Hoshiarpur parliamentary constituency in Lok Sabha. He said that he would take up the case with Union foreign minister Sushma Swaraj, who is scheduled to visit Pakistan in the next few days. The boy's case was highlighted by Times of India on December 2. His name is also not known to the observation home officials as he could not write Urdu properly even as they tried to make him scribble something.
Amit said that first he would try to get pictures and note any marks on the boy's body after getting required permissions from the authorities. Apart from seeking help from the Indian government, support of the media and social media would also be taken so that information could be procured about him.
The 16-year-old Pakistani boy was handed over to Dera Baba Nanak police station by the personnel of Border Security Force (BSF) who apprehended him after he had crossed the border illegally in November last year. However, his identity could not be established. Hoshiarpur observation home officials tried to help the boy and arranged a person well-versed in Urdu language, but whatever boy wrote did not make any sense and nothing could be known about him. They said the law did not permit to provide photograph of the boy as he was a juvenile undertrial and his case was being heard by Juvenile Justice Board in Gurdaspur.
