26.07.2016, AHMEDABAD: Police officials investigating the rape of a woman at the Paldi Vikas Gruh said on Sunday that they would have a DNA test run on the accused and on the foetus of the survivor, this week. The investigators will consult Civil Hospital doctors to plan the procedures. The exercise will be carried out to match DNA samples to get clinching evidence against the accused.
A woman in her thirties, staying at the Paldi Vikas Gruh for the past two years, was raped twice by Amrut Patel, 56, a resident of Thakkarbapanagar, earlier this year because of which the survivor became pregnant. The speech-and-hearing impaired survivor had complained of abdominal pain and irregular periods. When she was taken for a check-up it emerged that she was pregnant. Police arrested Patel late on Friday night.
A G Gohil, the inspector of the Paldi police station, said that the potency test of Patel had already been conducted and the Vikas Gruh premises examined by a team of forensic experts. Patel's clothes have been seized and police will soon recover the survivor's clothes.
"We are going to take medical opinion on the method by which a DNA sample can be taken from the foetus and will have it checked against the DNA of the accused," said Gohil. "A match will prove that he has fathered the child."
The investigators said that the matter of abortion lies with the shelter home officials. "Police tried to talk to the survivor with the help of experts who could question her with sign language," said an official. "Her consent for abortion is necessary if the shelter home wants to approach court to get permission."
