Just as we feel starbucks could not get any better, we learn that they have started the first ever outlet in Malyasia dedicated to hiring deaf baristas. The outlet in the Bangsar district currently has 10 deaf baristas, and three hearing staff, Starbucks told Mashable on Wednesday.Offcourse it is not a necessity for you to know sign language if you want to enjoy a cup of coffee as baristas are ready to take orders written on menu cards. Each customer will be assigned a number, which will flash on a screen when their order is ready. It has been mentioned that The Seattle coffee company worked with the Society of Interpreters for the Deaf (SID) in Malaysia to train and hire the newer baristas.
This is not the first time starbucks has taken up charitable initiatives, they have done homeless charity initiatives, donation drives including a commitment made several years ago to hire military veterans.
India is not far behind with such initiative with one of the outlets of Costa coffee in new delhi hiring an entire team of deaf workers (except for the shift manager and his assistant). Cafe Coffee Day also employs 90 deaf people and plans to add 30 during the current quarter according to Shyamala Deshpande, president HR at Cafe Coffee Day (CCD).
