Dancing with the Stars champion Nyle DiMarco has opened up about the emotional moment judge Carrie Ann Inaba signed to him during the season finale Tuesday night. Just minutes before DiMarco was crowned the new mirrorball champion, Ibana revealed that she had learned some sign language to communicate with the 27-year-old deaf model.
"Thank you for showing us your beautiful heart when you dance," Inaba signed as DiMarco wiped tears from his face and embraced pro Peta Murgatroyd.
DiMarco told Good Morning America Wednesday: "It was really very touching.
"She took the time to learn sign language and we don't really see that often in this world. So that really meant a lot to me and it really touched me. It really hit me right in the heart."
"This whole journey has been so special," Murgatroyd explained on GMA. "Nyle coming on to the show with all the courage in the world – he is absolutely fearless. And I will take that with me for the rest of my life. He has taught me so many lessons and made me a better teacher. He's just such a great friend."
Inaba wasn't the only judge praising DiMarco – who received 30 out of 30 for his final performance.
"The only boundaries are the ones we put on ourselves," said judge Len Goodman. "You don't get a sympathy vote from me. I just judge on what I see, and I'm telling you, you deserve to be in this final. And you just proved it tonight."
Bruno Tonioli called their Tango/ChaCha fusion "glorious in every way possible."
During the semi finals, DiMarco performing a stirring dance that Inabadeclared the best ever in 22 seasons of the show.
"This is such an amazing feeling," Murgatroyd said in the final moments of the Tuesday's broadcast. "This whole thing has been so incredible because of this man. I owe everything to him."
