A deaf girl was among the first time voters in Chennai. After casting her vote in the Chepauk-Triplicane constituency, Shazia Fathima used sign language to say that everyone should vote as it is a citizen's primary duty to the country. She added that the disabled should also try and step out to vote with the help of their families and friends.
Kathmandu calling for lessons from Lakhoni:
Nepal chief election commissioner Ayodhya Prasad Yadav was in Chennai
on Monday to learn first-hand about the arrangements for the conduct of the assembly election in Tamil Nadu. Yadav and a team of officials visited the secretariat and observed the conduct of polls, sources said. The team met chief electoral officer Rajesh Lakhoni and senior officials. After the Lakhoni one-on-one, they visited the control room and call centres set up by the poll panel, for practical sessions on the working of the TN election commission.
406 from Mumbai return to Salem, make it count: As many as 406 people travelled nearly 1,300km from Mumbai to Pethanaickenpalayam, a village in Attur constituency in Salem district to cast their votes. Most of them are contract workers in Mumbai. Many of them are rag-pickers. "We have spent more than 3,000 to fulfil our democratic duty," said K Palanisamy, a voter. Pethanaickenpalayam, a small village in Attur constituency, has a total of 1,046 voters.
