NEW DELHI: A 31-year-old deaf mute man was shot in his head near his residence in northeast Delhi's Seelampur area on late Tuesday night. Family of the de ceased, who was awarded for his academic performance during school days by the late president APJ Abdul Kalam, suspects that the he was shot by one of their neighbours who owed money to the victim.
The deceased has been iden tified as Vinod Kumar and the incident took place around 10pm when Vinod was alone a a genera merchant shop, owned by the family. Vinod is vived by survived by his mother and elder brother Kamal Kumar. Kama has named one of the culprits as Salman in his written complaint given to the police, but they are yet to make any arrests.
"The person used to frequent our shop and buy things in large amount, but on credit. Despite multiple warnings by my brother, on Saturday he had again vi sited the shop, when he and I had an argument as my brother had refused to give him anything on any more credit. He had threate ned to kill both of us, but left.
Police said that on Tuesday Kamal and Vinod had gone to a nearby market place after dinner, when they were both con fronted by Salman near the Seelampur Metro station. As per the victim's brother's statement, when he tried to make Salman leave the spot he pulled out a pistol and shot his brother Vinod.
