06.11.15, A couple from Kunda village in Pratapgarh district (UP) has claimed to be the real parents of Geeta, the speech and hearing impaired Indian woman who returned from Pakistan after spending 15 years across the border.
Claiming to be the parents of Geeta, the couple submitted papers and affidavits to support their claim at the collector’s office on Wednesday. The couple also shared the story of the day they last saw her.
“My daughter had gone to her maternal uncle’s house who lives in Chapra district in Uttar Pradesh. While returning back from there, she got lost in the train. Ever since then, we have been searching for her,” said Rajaram Gautam.
Accompanied by his wife Annar Bai, the duo went to the collector’s office and requested that the girl be handed back to them. The collector, however, said the matter was with the Central government at the moment and once it gets approval from the Centre, further action will be taken.
“We have taken all the documents they had brought with them. This includes a missing complaint registered by them with the local police around 15 years back. We plan to hand over these documents to the external affairs ministry and let them proceed in this regard,” said collector P Narahari.
Meanwhile, since Geeta’s return to India, more than 10 families have come forward and claimed her to be their daughter. Of them, DNA test of two have also been conducted. Like the others, Rajaram Gautam and Annar Bai too claim to be the real parents of Geeta.
