Dehradun, Nov 28:
A deaf-mute inmate of the city's lone government-run shelter home for women in distress was allegedly sexually exploited by a staffer and made to undergo an abortion. Medical tests conducted on the Nari Niketan speech and hearing impaired inmate confirms her sexual exploitation by a shelter home staffer and her subsequent abortion, SSP Sadanand Date told PTI. A magisterial permission has been sought to record the victim's statement with the help of an interpreter which may throw more light on facts of the case, he said. The SIT is now zeroing in on the main culprit and his accomplices in the crime who were all staffers of the shelter home, Date said. Superintendent of Nari Niketan Meenakshi Pokhriyal and its Superintendent incharge Anita Maindola were suspended recently for negligence and an SIT probe ordered into the allegations of the sexual exploitation of a woman inmate, after being reported by local media.
