18.02.2016, CHENNAI: A 67-year old differently-abled man who was part of the protest that was staged by four different groups had died early on Thursday morning.
The deceased identified as Kuppuswami from Vellore had come to the city on Wednesday morning to participate in the protest. Later, after the police arrested the protesters and had taken them to Rajaratinam stadium. At around 9.30 am, Kuppuswami complained of chest pain, following which he started vomiting blood.
He was rushed to Royapettah government hospital where he died on Thursday morning at around 4.
The protest was organised by four different organisations National Federation of the Blind, Tamil Nadu State federation of the deaf , Tamil Nadu Association for the rights for all type of differently-abled caregivers and December 3 movement.
DMK leader M K Stalin visited the protestors at Royapettah Hospital.
Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC), National Federation for Blind (NFB), December 3 and Tamil Nadu Association for Deaf (TAD) jointly organised the protest.
The differently abled have been protesting for a long on their demands but nothing turned fruitful till now. On the day, over 600 people staged the protest at Labour statue in Marina beach.
The six-point charter demand include, ordering of judicial probe in to non implementation of 3 per cent job reservation in the State for differently abled even after Supreme Court order, providing 40 per cent hike in monthly allowance like other states and also drop criteria that, only orphans will be given benefits and also provide 100 houses for differently abled in all the districts with transport facilities.
